Watch me Create a Bowman Chrome Bryce Harper in front of your Very Eyes!

I had a TON of fun doing this and hope you all enjoy it as well.  My friend asked how plates of only 4 colors could be used to create such beautiful full color cards, and I thought I'd run through it on photoshop.  Check the video below!

Basically, here are the cliff's notes:

I took all the plates I picked up ...

and scanned them into photoshop and set each layer to "darken".

Merging them is a fun mess

How can this ever create something cool?

All lined up and flipped around!

With a chrome border

I really enjoyed seeing all the colors coming together and hope you got a kick out of it too!

    Thanx Tanner.

    I enjoyed the presentation buddy.

What many call "base" cards are "offset" printed - thus the plates are positive.

I'd like to know how they "direct print" the chromes - do you know anything about the method.

There was a major commotion by the purists when cards started changing in appearance.

I remember when they complained about gold foil stamping.

UV coated full bleed cards were getting little love by some.

And then, in 1993 - the Chrome Refractor!

Thanks! I know when I create chrome refractor style cards (not with plates) for my own collection, I have to first print them in reverse myself. Unfortunately, I know very little about how the big boys do it.

Very cool Tanner. Many people are surprised to learn that it takes only four colors ( C M Y K) to make just about every photo you see.

My old man actually owns a print shop.

Here is one of his machines... a 6 color W/ aqueous coating tower.

Unfortunately he prints no sports cards but he does posters, score cards ect. for our local sports teams like the Tigers, Red Wings.

Very cool! I searched youtube and found a neat video of how printing plates themselves were made. It was neat in and of itself.
