So after yesterdays game, some Twins players were upset because an Orioles player bunted to beat the shift in the 9th inning of a 7-0 game. Brian Dozier actually said it was bad for the game. What a joke. if you are going to shift, dont be upset when players make a play to beat it. good grief. why more players dont do this is beyond me.

I totally agree with you on this.
Agree with the OP as well. Bunting is a lost are and that is too bad. Home Run derby gets old real fast.
Well of course Home Run Derby is old! It came out almost 60 years ago and it's all in black and white! But yeah, what exactly is the problem? Was some sort of unwritten rule breached like walking over the opponent's pitching mound or something?

I agree with the op too. I read about that last night. Your job as a hitter is to get on base. If their going to give you the left side of the infield take it. I guess if their pitcher had a no hitter going and the batter hit a HR with two outs they would think that was unfair too. The batter is suppose to SO

baseball is full of unwritten rules , i'm drawing a blank thinking of other sports unwritten rules other than running up the score in football when you have a big lead
Golf has a bunch, like letting a golfer who is about to win the tourney putt last even if he is closer to the hole. Other is fawn all over Tiger Woods even though he won't make the Masters cut and hasn't won a major in ten years.
This isn’t even an unwritten rule I’m aware of. Since when can’t you bunt in the 9th inning of a one hitter? If thats the case, then maybe an unwritten rule should be, don’t shift in the 9th inning, up 7-0 against a rookie catcher.

If a no-hitter were being pitched and the score wasn't tight, I can understand it, as there is an unwritten rule about that, but I've never heard of one like this, lol.
That said, Dozier is a beast of a player and hit his third HR in two days today.

Unwritten rule......crap.....make them play defense.
Yes he should have just let it go and moved on and not said a word
Dozier
"When they didn't hold our runner on [earlier in the blowout], they conceded to the fact they didn't want us to steal, so we didn't steal," Dozier explained. "We could have very easily stolen and put up more runs, so therefore in return, you don't bunt. That's what everybody is missing in this whole thing."
Next time the Twins shoud just steal just run up the score.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
This is nonsense. If you're going to shift, the guy gets to bunt. Period.
Hockey has a bunch:
1) Don't punch a guy during a fight after he goes to the ice
2) Don't challenge an injured player to a fight
3) Don't celebrate too vigorously in a blowout
4) In a playoff handshake line, you shake hands and don't talk crap or cause trouble.
And lots of others relating to fighting - don't send a good to challenge a star, don't challenge a guy half your size, and so on. In fact, there's an entire book revolving around the rules called "The Code".
It wasn't that big of a deal. Dozier is an intense player and team leader.
There was also some confusion that an earlier hit might have actually been an error (making it a potential no-hitter), so the bunt was sort of a "bush league" play.
Drysdale and Gibson used to throw at you if you spent too much time digging in at the plate. LOL

Anyway to get on base and try to help your team win.
Yeah I read over some of that (for some reason The Sporting News website was slow as molasses for me) and someone made it sound like it was unacceptable because the pitcher was on a one hitter. Dude no one cares about a one hitter...at least nowhere near the same extent as a no hitter.
I think given the circumstances not only was the bunt "fair game" but made by far the most strategic sense.
