a 1965 Indians card was for sale with 100 dollar minimum bid..the card was at $350 plus and it didn't sell because they said it would be at a loss. Why dont they just put the loss amount at the minimum, insted of wasting my time till 3 am to see if i got the card. last time i bid

They had the #1 registry 1965 Topps set consigned and were selling the set in its entirety or separate, whichever was highest. The complete set won out: "The current high bid for the complete set, $170,511.00, is greater than the aggregate total of the bids on the single cards that comprise this set, $162,170.00 (this lot is currently winning)"

There you go..
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
Selling sets is tricky.... thats why they have that sale format in place.... it makes sense if your the seller..... To amass an entire set is soooooo costly... its a labor of love but I dare say unprofitable unless your talking a specific rarity and high grade set. I assembled a '57 Topps FB set which at the time was the highest graded in 2013. The 1 of 1's were costly and those 1of 1's are now 1 of 5's and 6's ..... much cheaper. The money maker is in the RC Unitas and Starr etc..... If you dont make a profit on them ... u could be in for a huge loss.
thank you

I won a few decent small cards. I got outbid on the Jordan auto late. That was a bummer to wake up to.
As a buyer, I have lost interest in single cards listed as part of an entire set. Don't like the idea of "winning" a card and not getting it because someone bought the entire set.
I completely understand the sellers point of view though.
The 1953 wax pack sold for a healthy amount
I thought so too - well above the what the 52 sold for, although the 52 pack was listed with broken gum, so no chance for a PSA crossover there, unless they've started slabbing packs with broken gum now?
The 53 is tough and this one is pretty nice for the grade. Another new record price for a vintage wax pack.

In the recent past auction I was high bidder on the Mile High 1965 Topps FB set for 6 or 7 cards.
I was so pissed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At the time I didn't realize that this was the way they were selling set.
Mintstate won the set and then proceeded to double the prices on the individual cards on their site
Now I will not ever go back to mile high.
IMO sell things such as cards as either a set or individual cards. Set a reserve if there is a minimum you will accept.

I was bidding on a very nice 1965 PSA 9. Quit bidding when I realized that no way would I win due to the entire set in a single lot. Don't blame the auction house, but I did quit bidding. But I was amazed at the prices on the 1957 Topps basketball pack and the 1953 Topps baseball pack. New records.
