Is it possible to find the owner of a coin by ising the cert #? Obviously the coin would have to be registered in someone’s PCGS “inventory” or a registry set. Im looking for a coin I sold last year. Any ideas.

I believe it is in a registry set it will show on the cert page.

I think you can....but all of the planets need to be aligned.

As a test, I went into one of the D.L. Hanson registry sets. While the sets don't specifically list cert numbers, when a TrueView is used as a photo, you can pluck out the cert number.

I inserted a random cert number into the cert verification, and got a reply that said:
"This cert is currently in D. Set Registry inventory and is featured in one or more sets, including D. L. Hansen Complete Cents Type Set."

So, in theory, you could then contact the Registry holder.

    To work:

    • Coin must be in a registry set
    • The registry set has to be public

Thanks for the info. I did’t ever notice the notes at the bottom of the coin’s cert page. Unfortunately I believe the coins im lolking for have new cert numbers. Oh, well, maybe I will see them up for sale some time.

If the coin has a new cert number then perhaps a new TrueView was taken of it when it was submitted. If so, you may then go through the TV images for the issue and attempt to match any to the coin you are looking for. Upon a match, you will have the new cert number and can check to see if it is listed in a published inventory or if it might be in auction. Good luck.

I have done searches in internet with cert number and a couple times found where for sale or has been sold.

If a registry set is public, you can find the cert number of the coins in the set. Just click on them, no image needed.

Why do you attempt to find the latest owner if I may ask.....
