Walker Proof Digital Album Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
TDN, lots of fun to be had in all corners of our hobby. To collect the best of the best as you have done leaves you very little challenge except to start a new and challenging set. You will always get the credit for the set that you put together.
I have learned to collect the prettiest girls and their pedigree may not be the best. PCGS grading sometimes reminds me of my Mother looking askance at some of my dates. While there is no doubt she was right in the long run, the girls she suggested just seemed to lack luster.
Building a collection around maximum PCGS grades may end up a hollow victory in the end. Maybe just build some collections that your children will cherish and pass on to their children too. I inherited my father's IHC collection, which he found in circulation. And I love it as is, not complete, but knowing the effort he expended to find them in circulation. Instead I put a complete set of IHC proofs together in his memory.
For a guy that's now slumming at the level of the common collector that's a really nice example!
Honestly this is what this hobby is all about not chasing registry points. Having a conversation with a hard core registry collector I usually feel they are compensating for something else in life like the middle-aged guy with a comb over in his Italian sports car. Walking away you kind of want to say sorry your Willie no longer works
To Err Is Human.... To Collect Err's Is Just Too Much Darn Tootin Fun!
Everyone's different...for me the thrill is in hunt...I'm interested to know where are you finding most of your new acquisitions: dealers, auctions, collector friends??

I know you are joking but for those unfamiliar with the prices for coins like the 73CC, 76CC and 78CC in 64, this isn't exactly a "everyman's collection."

Get back our old 78-CC PCGS 65 with (un-attributable) DMPL. BTW, came from Dwight Manley.
That ain't settling, whereas the 1878-S (?) T$1 PCGS MS68, as we've previously agreed, would still not fit. 5% of the $135K I sold it for wasn't bad for 7 minutes of work, but I wouldn't wasted Laurie's time.

To a MUCH lesser degree, I think I'm somewhat doing the same.
It IS fun. And finding suitable neat coins is not only harder than searching TOP grades but also helps alleviate some ...possible... exposure to market forces that may or may not affect anything.
Knowing what you HAD should be gratifying, too.

Yup. Still got the pics - which 364 days out of the year is all that I had anyway...
Ain't that the truth?
Actually an inconvenient truth besides.
I also juggle stuff between the bank and the safe and am never QUITE satisified until I ...."adjust"... again.

Bruce I just made an 1873-CC TR $1 in PCGS 67....too bad it's too high grade for you now!
Ha! Certain things are irresistible. That would be one of them...
and so it begins.

That didn't take long to get the bug back. Cool!
When it comes to rarities, will it be equal value or equal grade ?
I have the three toughest dates (73cc, 76cc & 78cc) in 64 vs two 65s & a 66 in the old set.
Did you sell the set intact

Congrats on the sales of your sets. And the courage to start another.
If I sold my cameo set I don't think I would have the energy to think about putting another set together.

The colorful one? Perhaps...not real happy with the 64 that I bought. But as they say - “go find another”. Shrug
