How big is the Wyoming Coin Show?

MorganMan94MorganMan94 Posts: 1,330 ✭✭✭✭✭

I saw the Wyoming spring show is coming up not this weekend but the next. It is a two day show and ANACS is going to be there so I was wondering about how big it is and if I can justify a trip there. I am always looking for a reason to visit Wyoming and this may be it! Just curious what to expect if I do go.

    Howdy!

That show is pretty small, but there in the past, Jason Flowers, Ken Byrd and Frese Brothers did set up. It's at the Radission Hotel right off I-80.

In nearby northern Colorado, the weekend before (March 10-11) is the Front Range Coin Show at the Boulder County Fairgounds, and then the weekend of March 23-25 is the 3-day Fort Collins Show at the Larimer County Fairgrounds right off the I-25 Freeway, Both of these shows are larger with 40 tables or so each.

Awesome! That is why I am hoping to go, this is just something to do for a few hours. Only thing holding me back is the 10 hours each way though.

Wyoming is like no other. There are a lot of coin related items at the Cody Museum...plan on spending at lease two days. However...It's a long ways from Cheyenne. So...I see you are a lefty...take care...

If it's real, it's probably not that big.
I know there is really no such place as North Dakota, but is it possible that Wyoming isn't real too?

I lived in Cheyenne for 3 years. I enjoyed living there. They never had this show during that period.

It's been real every time I've been there.

The weather and road conditions would be my biggest concern.

I am pretty sure the Canyon in Yellowstone does not look like that at this time. You can visit it, but not by car.

Pretty sure you're right. Never been there in the winter.

    Likely looks more like this.

I’ll just warn you that Wyoming is huge! Cheyenne is nothing like Jackson Hole. Cody is great. If you ever go there don’t miss the museum.

I was last there in winter 40 years ago (March 1978). The Hayden Valley was spectacular. The park was much more visitor friendly then.

On my way home from the Denver ANA, I spent an hour or so driving around Cheyenne. Checking out the places I lived and worked. Sure changed in the last 18 years.

And yes, south-east Wyoming is nothing like north-west.

My best one ever out there. One year on a trip with the family we stopped at Chugwater which is on I-25 between Cheyenne and Casper. Reading the local phone book, they described the area as having a monotonous similarity. I expect that looking at 100 ms69 silver eagles could be described the same way. Supposedly the place got its name from the sound that the buffalo made when they hit the water after being driven over a cliff.

Been to Yellowstone on a Memorial Day weekend, the lake was still frozen solid and the south entrance was still closed.

Been there in the summer also and it is a completely different place. As others have said the museum in Cody is great as is the entire city.

Don't expect to see anything like the photos above in Cheyenne. Rather desolate in Cheyenne. Six hours to the north and west to get to Yellowstone, Jackson, or Cody. Picture below, I believe every tourist has stopped early in the morning and taken on the way in to Yellowstone.

    It's big. Especially at night.

My exposure to WY wasn't quite so pleasant. Our family was on vacation in the summer of 1966 and traveling from Denver to Rapid City. Stopped in Lusk WY at the Standard station and got a bad load of gas. We spent the rest of the day stopping every 20 miles in 100 degree heat to blow out the fuel filter by the carburetor. We got the dregs in Lusk.

    But it was dry heat..........

Could crack em out and spend em I spose. Wouldn't even get me a frosty malt at the Wendy's in Jackson.

Did the drive to the Cheyenne show from SLC one winter. Never again. There is a reason why they have gates and close I-80 when it gets bad. I somehow got around them . . .got alone on a 200 mile section of glare ice. Spent an interesting 14 hours. Learned a lot about driving.

My ranch is between Evanston and Ft. Bridger. When you hit the wind farm off I-80, look south. That is me.

Love the area. Desolate, and the quiet is deafening, but the antelope are close enough at times I could easily hit one with my 1911 . . .and the deer are like rats. I actually do take some PCGS boxes up there at times just to enjoy them in the spring sun with a dram of Laphroaig in the chaise . . . . .
