Question for collectors submitting raw baseball cards from the early to mid 1960's

I'm interested in raw BB cards that are 55 to 60 years old, submitted to PSA.

Percentage wise, how many of you cards grade PSA 8 or higher? I am building a 1966 set at PSA 8 or higher, my rate is about 40% of the raw cards I sub get a PSA 8, never got a 8.5 or 9.

How do you do ?

Thanks
Tony

When I was subbing the regular cards for my set, I rarely got anything below an 8 unless it was some kind of hard to find card that I needed as a filler.

From very early on in my collecting, I saw that card sellers would offer nothing for any of my cards, even though they were in very nice shape. I began scrutinizing the cards I was buying and generally would pass on anything with any kind of flaw.

1966 is much easier to get 8's on than some of the other 1960's sets (1962 is a BEAST! 1963 also tough.).

You need to look closer; corners, centering, surface, printing, ALL must be nearly flawless. The backs can be off-center, but no marks or stains. I use a magnifier to check corners and hold card up to direct sunlight to check for creases and other surface problems.

A good magnifier light is worth the investment !
