eBay Shipping - Feedback Related
Hi All,
This has been discussed before, but I'll throw it out there. I bought a card (an inexpensive card) and paid $4 shipping, which I was fine with because I consider that part of what I spend for the card. I received the package today and it was shipped in a PWE for $0.71. It was in a secured top loader. I'm fine with what I spent in total, but kind of miffed at the way it was sent. I guess the expectation is, if you're being charged $4 for shipping, it will come in a padded envelope, or at least better packaged.
I was going to downgrade the stars I give for shipping charge, but the question is, do I give neutral feedback and state my disappointment in the shipping? The seller has not given me feedback, so I'm tempted to do nothing in case he decides to neg me for the sub-par feedback. What do some of you guys do in in this case?
Not a big deal, really - just throwing it out there to see what the opinion of others is. Thanks!

Sellers can't leave Negs; I think it's ok to ding the stars for overcharging or packaging, maybe; {but don't forget gas, time, etc are in his cost too} but if card arrived safely why neg? Did you contact seller for explanation or at least partial refund on shipping?
I have to much S**t; so if you working on sets or are a player/team collector, send me your want list, with conditions desired. Keep in mind I have a another job so please allow me a few days to respond.
How about the "direct" approach?
Contact the seller and tell them you were disappointed in paying 4 bucks for a PWE and request a refund of a couple of bucks.
I would guess some would consider the 4 bucks shipping "and" handling?
Those aren't bad ideas. The funny part, in thinking about it, if I paid the same total and the seller listed with free shipping, I would understand a PWE. It's all about perception and expectation I guess. I would have expected better care with the shipping charge.
No neg feedback
I would ding a star or 2 as this is a feedback item same as description.

I don't do repeat business with any seller that has a business model of making a profit off of shipping. I do take into consideration cost of materials and time involved.
you got the card at a cheaper price because it wasn't free shipping, all buyers consider the shipping charges and bid accordingly. I do that when I bid also, if my max bid is 20 dollars and the shipping is 4 dollars, my max bid becomes 16 dollars
When I consider buying a card on Ebay I add the price of the card to the delivery charge to arrive at the total delivered price. When I receive the card I look at it to make sure it's the card I purchased. I then leave feedback and 5 stars on all available ratings. All that matters to me is that the card was delivered to me in the same condition as I bought it. I do not know or care what percentage of the total price was paid for the delivery part and I do not care how the seller chooses to get the card delivered to me. If there's damage it's his problem whether it's in a PWE, bubble or box.
After buying thousands of items on eBay, I don’t think I have ever noticed or cared how a purchase arrived, as long as it arrived in the condition it was sold as.
If I know the shipping cost up front, I calculate it into my bid, and then it’s on the seller to get it to me without a problem. If they charge me $100 and it costs them $5 to ship, makes no difference to me. I still pay what I wanted to pay for the item.
I’d just leave positive feedback since the item arrived in the same condition as advertised.
I agree with what you all are saying. I add the shipping to my total price and adjust accordingly. I will just ding on the shipping rating and move on.
Would anyone's opinion change if you were buying a $100 card, charged for shipping, and then it came in an un-reinforced PWE?
Sellers have to make a profit. Sometimes sellers can save a few bucks with pwe. Card savers top loaders envelopes n gas all cost money. If the card arrived is perfect condition then that great no need to be upset. It's all in the cost of business plus ebay takes there final value fee. Final value fee on shipping and PayPal take there cut also. It's just a way to save some money on a non expensive card. I use pwe for any raw card under $10 n have no problems

I get a big "rush" out of what big auction houses charge for shipping.
They've raised "handling" to an art form.
This person one time told me (after I asked why they were charging 3x the shipping of other sellers with the same item):
I have my time, packaging material, gas to the post office, time waiting in line to ship, gas back home. I was like...seriously?
I look at the shipping cost as the amount it is going to take to get me the card safely. I dont consider how much he pays, what his costs are etc etc. He is taking the risk by sending it in a PWE, I am sure he has had to issue a few refunds for that but on inexpensive cards, it is probably cost effective for the seller to do it that way
No they don't.

Agreed. I can see charging an extra buck or so, but shipping in a PWE is pretty lame in any case, especially if you are charging $4.00. OTOH, I wouldn't spend any time thinking about it as long as card arrived safely, but that seller is also opening themselves up to INR claims as without tracking they can't prove item was delivered, either.
