my grandfather brought over a carton of cards and photos and books he collected over the years.. the oldest being a partial 1970 topps baseball set and some game used as well as signed photos and some books. figured id load in a few scans of what was in the box . he's moving so can't take his collection with him to his retirement home.. getting more from him in a few weeks.. the 1983 box is still sealed as is the pack

You're making me feel old saying these items from the 70's and 80's are from your Grandfather. Eeek! Reality bites. Nice of him to give them to you.
he's 86 but he didnt start collecting till the early 1970's .. he cant take them with him as his room isnt big enough to show them off so they would end up under his bed or closet
should i keep the packs and box sealed or open them? am still debating
Personally, I would keep these items in the state in which he gave them to you. The sentimental value (imo) exceeds the potential card value should you decide to open the box.
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
Not sure whether you should open them or not, I don't think those years are worth that much. I'm more of a vintage collector so I'll let experts of the 80's chime in. What year is the hockey pack?
It's from 1986. Potential Patrick Roy RC.
I would leave the hockey pack unopen.
let me know if any of those 83 cellos have Ron Kittle on top.
Was thinking the same thing.
Geez. Now "I" feel old.
+1
thanks.. ive decided to keep the box and pack unopened and maybe one day i can pass them down to my nephew. better to keep em in the family
Good idea~they will never lose value and may increase in value over time and once you open the box, chances are the contents won't add up to but a fraction of what the box is worth unopened. And you keep your grandfather's legacy intact.

This is just an idea. Once you go through some of these cards, etc. If he has a favorite player or if one of those SI's is special, etc. Get a few of the items that might mean something to him and frame them together, so he can have them with him.
