1962 Topps

The 1962 Topps are so hard to keep in great condition with their brown borders. Does PSA take this into account when grading them? Are they more forgiving of small marks along the borders? Here is my Richie Ashburn that I feel like is in pretty great shape. 3 of the Corners are sharp with one only having very small wear, centering is pretty good, but there are a few places where the brown is showing some wear. What does everyone think? How will this grade out by PSA?

Yes they are harsh on '62s, very harsh. I agree three corners are touched with the top right being the worst. The bottom edge has a few issues there with some chipping, also common with this year. Centering is a little off to. I'll go lower on the grade as a possible 5 or 6. I bet Richie wishes they would have had a picture retake day back then.

I'm going to go with a 6 or 7. If the centering were better, compared to some of the PSA 8's I've seen out there I would think it would have a shot at that. I've been focusing on a lot of the 62's in high number on Ebay lately and the 5's are pretty bad, both newer and older graded. Even with the cards being slightly oc, they still have wear on multiple if not all corners. Personally, that's for sure a card I would send in on a bulk sub.

  • I agree about subbing it with a bulk order or a monthly special. Now I just need PSA to update their monthly special to include 1962 and I can submit this along with some others I have waiting.

Just as an example, take a look at these. A 6 and a 7 and I don't believe they are as nice as yours. The centering on the 7 Uecker is probably better but the corners aren't as good. I have some 62's that are processing at PSA now. Really anticipating seeing the grades. I am going to be sending in a bulk order in the next couple weeks and would be happy to add it or others in if you would like. I know another board member is going to send me about 8 cards to include with the sub. Think I'm sitting at about 70+ cards and trying to get up to 100.

  • I am very new to this. I only have my 6 CC special cards submitted at this point. How would it work logistically and money wise for me to have submit with your bulk order?

Well, you just send your cards to me in a penny sleeve and card saver. (If you don't have one or the other, I have plenty of both), then I will add them to the online submission form, package them and ship to PSA. You don't have to pay anything until the grades pop. You would just be responsible for the $7/card submission fee, and a small pro-rated amount for the shipping/ins to and from PSA(I usually only charge at most .50 a card) and whatever it costs to ship it back to you. I would just let you know what the total is after the cards come back. As I told the other member, it's hard to trust complete strangers with our prized possessions so I like to be very transparent. I will provide you my name, address and phone number and you are free to call and talk to me beforehand if you like.
