1858 Proof Seated Half Dollar

Anyone know what sort of records for the 1858 Proofs ?
I see in some places 75-100 pieces, then others say 300 pieces.

Is this just assumption or this there a Mint Record somewhere ?

Maybe Roger B. could let me know.

Thanks for any conjecture.

Chris

@aus3000tin, use the @ sign before a name and it will show up in their Notifications tab on here. Seems like this was somewhat recently discussed before but not sure when or if @RogerB weighed in.

If not here, it might have been in an auction lot description. I'm pretty sure it's @RogerB's motto to "trust auction catalog lot descriptions above all else" :o .

Always thought the Proof Only 1858 dollar was underated, especially compared to the 1895. But the supply meets the demand.

The official proof coin list from Mint HQ in 1939 begins with 1863 for silver. I checked my files and I have nothing stating the total proof coins by denomination for 1858. The information certainly existed at one time.

    Roger,

Thanks for the response. I was just curious how many there are/were.

I was thinking about purchasing a nice example.

    I have a few 1/2 dimes from the 1870's.
I can NOT believe I can purchase them every now & then for the $500ish range.
With a mintage of 1k or less, it's a steal.

    Thanks,

    Chris
