1962 or 1963 Topps

Hey guys - I am considering putting together a HOF set from either 1962 or 1963 Topps but I am torn between these two years. The cards would only be the player cards (not leaders, etc.), centered, and min PSA 6 or 7 (I am torn between the minimum grades too!).
Because debates like these are fun - If you were me and were split 50/50 which would you choose?

Ha! My wifey just said "both" isn't an option
62..The "woodies" are one's that I would want to collect

I may be hoarding too much 80's junk wax but I like it!

1963 Topps baseball is a great set...however the 1962 is greater as far as card collecting fun and card quality challenges.
63.
Just a lot more colorful than the boring 62 design.
Yea, but boring can be beautiful in the eyes of a card collecting beholder.
Love the 62’s. No desire for the 63’s at all
1963 might be easier. Those 1962 borders chip easily.

My original thought was 1963 because it's more colorful. After looking at Bob's albums, it seems the '62's are nicer in aggregate.

Very nice 1962 cards...especially the Mantle.

This is a great comparison - I am loving how the 62's look in the album. I do love the colorful 63's (which a HOF set wouldn't include the Rose ).
The 62's are ugly. I like the colors of the 1960 and 63 cards.
There's something cool about the "woodies" - especially if you can nail one like Bob has.
Love the 62’s and the 55 Bowman as well. In poor shape they do look lousy, however in NM plus and centered they are a piece of art. It may be an aquired taste not to sound as some people just hate them.
63s all the way...if 62s are not very high grade. The cards are ugly!
Both are classic sets. Can't go wrong with either!
"Molon Labe"
1963.
I collect '62 and '63 HOF'ers in high grade Mint 9 or better.....both sets are distinctly different. I would go with '62 for 6 or 7 grades as it might be a wiser, slightly more profitable investment as well as fun. I love the robust colors of the '63 but the nostalgic, antique looking '62 is hard to beat...... probably my two fave years in the 60's to be sure.
Dam, those are nice cards.
Wow the colors look great on the 63 Brock!
some great '62's
I'm not impressed. Where are the 10's?
Very VERY nice! Love 'em!
Not bagging on any of those cause I would love to own ANY one of them. But I have to ask about the Clemente. Seems to have a bit more chipping on the edges than what I would expect from a 9, especially compared to most of the others you have posted. I only ask as I recently subbed some that had about the same amount as the Clemente or less and guess I'm hoping for 9's as well!
I seriously don't always "intimately" know to this day just exactly how they grade high end cards. But this I do know, having opened a number of 1962 Topps wax packs as a young boy, i do remember some cards having this chipping right out of the pack.
So perhaps the grader doesn't analyze the chipping as "wear" but as part of the original mint card, hence still receiving a 9. Perhaps sort of like sometimes there are cards with rough cuts that get a 9.
i like the wood grain of the 62
I guess that is a good an explanation as any. While I'm putting together a low end 62 set I'm accustomed to all the "chipping". I will say I purchased a PSA 8 Brock RC in a lot a few years back. I thought it looked horrible for the grade and got rid of it. Kinda wish I still had it.
The first PSA 9 I ever bought, a long time ago off Ebay, a 1961 Gil Hodges, no qualifiers. The seller had no scan of the back which wasn't uncommon back then. I couldn't wait to get it, my first 9 card, the front was terrific, corners terrific, I turn it over to look at the stats, one of my favorite parts of a card, and there was a dime sized ink smear in around the center of the stats, actually making some of it unreadable. I couldn't F*n believe it I was so ticked off. I placed it back on Ebay for auction, and sold it for about half what I paid for it, because I showed a scan of the back.
Well...to this day I buy no card off Ebay without a scan of the back. Fortunately, no bad experiences with PSA cards since then, but I am always careful...of course as we always say, "buy the card, not the holder."
The 63 mantle is a nice looking card, so I say the 63's
IT CAN'T BE A TRUE PLAYOFF UNLESS THE BIG TEN CHAMPIONS ARE INCLUDED
@garnettstyle ~Here's a Ginger and a Mary Ann:
Yes, in a hot tub!
1962 has only one Mantle 10 and 15 nines
1963 Mantle has two tens and forty nines.
Much tougher for 62, yes Mary Ann and Ginger in the hot tub with other unmentionables as well.
I favor the 62's in psa 6. I feel like they have gotten much tougher on the woodies over the years, and feel like many 6's graded in the past 5 years would have been 7's in past years. Just my opinion, but I think they are a good value.
That said, I really like the photos of many HOFers in 63 better - Clemente, aaron, koufax, mays, brooks robinson, mccovey , yaz, and kaline come to mind.
Good luck either way - both sets are beauties.

If you aren't going for the full set, I would lean towards 63. I think the variety of colors in that set would give it a visual"pop". You also get two photos instead of one. But it really comes down to which year has players and photos you like better.
