An incredible find or a fake?
Edit: Please flag for shill bidding.
Edit 2: Looks like they got spooked and cancelled all the shill bids. Ha ha. I spoke to a rep at Trust & Security who was engaged and said would call me back (How often does that happen?!) so they must be taking it seriously. Not sure if Ebay took the bids down or maybe they message this scum bag and he got spooked. Won't matter. I can't wait for Ebay to ban them and then get Paypal to suspend them. That is harder anymore since Paypal is not owned by Ebay but I am on it. If you get them banned by Paypal then usually (Paypal is good about verifying people's bank or credit card) that means that person is banned from life even if they create a new bank account or credit card.
Something I know little about but found interesting.

Pretty impressive collection his uncle had. LOL
fake, just like his mantle and likely the Gehrig ball he sold
I mean honestly if the T-206 was real that Mantle is sort of peanuts.
Where or when was the Gehrig ball? I don't see it in past 15 day sell listings and not on there now.
Do you honestly think if the Wagner was real that it would only be at just over a grand four days into the auction?
Furthermore do you think that there would only be two bidders and one with 97% of their bids with the seller and the other 100%?
Time to work on your BS meter.
US $1,025.00
[ 72 bids ]
Two bidders in total - that couldn't be his brother and sister in law's Ebay accounts now could it? LOL
Looking to catch a fish out there who thinks it's real because of the bidding frenzy.

Looks like a great asset to EBAY!
My question to him would be why is he altering the corners and ruining a nice inkjet copy?
How does he know it's a T206, but can only assume it's from the beginning of the 20th century. And for the Mantle, he knows it's a great classic, yet can't figure out the year.
The descriptions from the Honus and Mickey auctions seem to come from different sellers.

Actually just lazy and I found the Gehrig which had a ton of bids but ....guess who? The same 2 bidders who make up 100% of the bids of the 2 cards.
This is a little more serious than casual shill bidding. I think authorities need to be at least contacted on this one.
Contact their local (if that is where they live) NJ Police or just fill out an IC3 form with FBI?
Leaving out the year strikes me as part of the ruse. “I didn’t actually say it was an authentic 1952 Topps,” they’ll say when challenged. Thin but a defense nonetheless. Gives them some room to plausibly claim there was no mens rea.
C'mon you know better than that OP. We were all taught about things that seem too good to be true.

I am going to file out an IC3 and call Ebay Trust/Security tomorrow. You need like 15 minutes of free time to deal with them. If they don't get throw in prison at least can get their Ebay and Paypal suspended.
This guys has had tons of illigitimate cards up and sold on eBay. Same tactics. His discriptions are vague enough to where he can play dumb but good enough to where an inexperienced person thinks they are getting a deal. A lot of his adds will say unknown/reprint which seems to give him enough leeway
Sellers trying to dump crap like this in hopes of snagging a sucker are dirtbags, but a greedy buyer dumb enough to fall for it is the real problem here. You can try to sell turds as diamonds, but you aren't selling anything if nobody is buying.
These sellers always hope for (and find) bidders who can't seem to remember the old phrase "if it looks too good to be true, it probably is" and they think they are going to beat crazy odds and land a million dollar card for $75. People just don't want to take personal responsibility and do their homework. Everyone wants the easy lottery win!
This scammer sure is accumulating a lot of Ebay fees with these high fake bids. Yes, he's got no PayPal fees because there is no payment involved. However, he'd better catch a fish or two soon or this dope is going to go broke.
Of course he can keep filing a no payment received and get his Ebay sellers fees back, but I would think that Ebay's computer would quickly catch this rat doing this and cut him off.
Frankly, i haven't seen anyone fall for this T206 Wagner or 1952 Mantle scam for any significant money for a long time. This punk needs to find a different scamming model...this one is basically obsolete.
lol I live near Somerset, I should ask to inspect it.
nah the corners on that and the mantle are obviously well rounded and faked.

That's the not so rare 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle refractor. Or is it Micky Mantel?
I don't know anything about baseball cards but this T206 Honus Wagner card is quite rare with only 32 graded by PSA to date. This card isn't as nice as the unaltered Gretzky-McNall Wagner but it's pretty nice. Oh and it's the ultra rare Piedmont back! But again, I know nothing about baseball cards.
At least he didn't use the super tired cliche of "I am not a professional grader"...seriously that Ebay cliche drives me CRAZY!!!
PS: If he really "knows nothing about baseball cards" then how did he know about PSA grading 32 of the Wagners? And it never occurred to him to get the card graded by PSA to confirm authenticity if nothing else? I suppose there's only one logical explanation as to why he chose not to do that... :P

For some reason the two bidders decided they were no longer interested in the card and retracted their bids.

Had a change of heart on the Mantle too.
He has changed his Ebay name too.
In his description he says..."I haven't found any paperwork for it"......like what? ..the wrapper and gum handed down from his Uncle?? HE has keen instincts..."its old". This fella thinks he can sell the MOST FAMOUS piece of paper on the planet and have it fly UNDER the radar~ incredible hubris.

The Honus description --- "bid at your own risk" but later --"enjoy the chance at millions, or just a nice addition ......
The Mantle auction is super vague
Both auctions are a waste of the internet, as well as a waste of valuable time
One bidder with 0 feedback has bid on five items. Anyone care to guess who the five items belong to? The seller just happens to have the most commonly counterfeited cards listed at the same time.
James
I would buy the card but not without the scissors used to trim the corners. To put a wonderful rare item like that on display in one's home, it just doesn't present as well without having the scissors alongside it in a nice display case.
