That's pretty shocking to me even at the $2325 level.

    HOF speculating?

Does that really become a 5K+ card even if (when) Clemens does get inducted into the HOF....?

Always looking for tougher PSA 10's of Nolan Arenado, Alex Bregman, Mookie Betts, Francisco Lindor, and Mike Trout.

There's only 43. I'd say that's few enough for a popular enough player/issue that outliers like that can happen. Especially when there was a lot of speculation that Bonds and Clemens were going to make it in this class and it had been seven months since the last came up for sale.

All's it takes are two guys who really want it. One less bidder could have dropped the price a few thousand.

IMO Some guys are so famous the HOF doesn't even move the needle....Pete Rose will always be the hit king and Roger Maris is better known than half of the members already in the HOF.....Clemens, 355 wins I think he got, is already so famous along with Bonds that perhaps if they get in the HOF the more "technical" collectors will grab them just b/c they are in but they are forever in baseballs history and will have a place in the fabric of the "Steroid Era". I hate what Bonds did to the numbers distorting his longevity, potency and demeaning Aaron and Mays and Ruth etc..... but Aaron's value hasn't been diminished to collectors as his cards are a bit more pristine that he is clean and still in my mind he is the CLEAN "HR King". I am able to handle the fact that these guys are roided and it was baseballs tarnished period where the leaders of the game dropped the ball by not having a more rigid testing program. Steroids were pervasive in the Olympics and the Tour De France, NFL and NCCAF where high school kids were on them...it was a widespread epidemic ... Do I think these guys should be enshrined? I do not but they are more famous beyond what any HOF recognition will provide. Their values will continue to rise as time goes by. AND their numbers ain't fooling anyone. But their stories are endearing to the history of MLB b/c they are real and they took place. Despite the fact that many guys were not honest ... they were honestly part of MLB. Baseball is not perfection just a place to strive for it. It's Ok. Baseball isn't all just numbers its also about stories.

Clemens and Bonds are already priced as if in the HOF. Sometimes, popularity alone drives up prices more than enshrinement.

Perhaps some people with that type of per-card budget actually collect Clemens, and that card is a favorite and scarce. Not everyone needs a player to be in the HOF or future price appreciation in order to purchase a card.

The non-Tiffany version is one of the most difficult PSA 10s of the entire decade.

I don't think so. I predicted two years ago the prices would be rising now thru 2020 for Clemens and Bonds. I agree this is a big jump for the card but still think they rise further. I'd be interested to know where the card hit its high thru the last 20 years. I'm not sure this sale is the record??

@mb2005 If u want to get one....wait til a month b4 the next HOF discussions..... I think you can easily get one in the 3-3.5k range..... The HOF hype just happened and so it'll die down in a few months to be sure. I think u can pick up 3 or 4 of Bonds' Tiffany RC for every 1 of Clemens..... not a bad ratio....but then again Bonds' RC are a bit more plentiful.....I just picked one up last summer for $1,075.00 cuz I didnt have 1. Clemens I will be getting in Tiffany ....that card is gorgeous....If he hadnt taken Roids how much would that Clemens RC be? 15-20K? There are only like 40-45 graded PSA 10's.

Looks like the serial numbers are all different for those recent 4, with 4 different sellers (assuming none of the same guys consigned the PWCC one) and on the two that were auction, unique 4k+ bidders on one vs. the other.

Without the 6-8 month gaps, it might look like a fairly steady run up. Anybody who bought one 2+ years ago and isn't particularly attached to it could cash in for a nice double up.

Definitely not my Clemens. In fact, I have no Clemens listed anywhere. No horse in the race for me. I had just never seen one listed that high. Cynical much?

Another tiffany psa 10 just went up for auction. After 4 hours it is at $1500. Wonder where it will end?

another tiffany psa 10 sold last night for $7877.00 I believe that is the record for this card. This was the Dmirti Young example, and the centering was not perfect, borderline.

is this now the second most valuable 80's baseball card to the henderson?

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

I think you mean 80's baseball card as there are plenty of examples out there from other sports that are far above that one, and a few that exceed the Henderson too ;)

    correct, Baseball card.

Man, I loved Clemens and his cards in his heyday. I was so proud of these cards, and then the whole scandal hit, so I tucked these away in a box for years. Just pulled them out to check the subgrades and scan them. Hey, I might be able to get back my initial investment now. :) These were from back when BGS was super tough on corners. Might be worth cracking and submitting to PSA, based on recent PSA 10 prices.

Really nice cards there. They may be worth more now than they were when he was an active player. Usually the centering on the Clemens differentiates between the 9's and the 10's.
