The Braves and Andruw Jones

What does everyone think about the future of the Braves and Andruw Jones?

Jones just hit his 18th homer.. he's batting right at .300.. this could be a career year..
what does everyone think he will be in the future? He's only about 25 right now..
And the Braves.. going from 4 games back to 4.5 games ahead... not too bad.

Not to mention the Braves have won 18 of their last 24 and are kicking arse right now leading the Twins 9-0! Andruw was player of the week this past week and he might even get player of the week THIS WEEK if he continues to dominate like he's doing. Braves are on a roll lately!

This is very painful to write, as I'm a big Yankees fan... But AJ needs his props...

I think he has been the best defensive CF in baseball for a while now... He's got super potential at the plate and I see him as a .310 hitter with 35 HR power and 115 RBIs over a period of time...

HOF written all over him if he stays injury free and the Braves continue to win...

Btw - How did you like those back to back to back homers alan? image Andruw, Castilla, and Franco! I was hoping Javy would make it a back to back to back to backer...but it didn't happen...I guess a back to back to back is rare enough. GO BRAVES!!!

oh yeah, Tom Glavine is having a career year so far, and he's had MANY great seasons...I believe he's won 20 five times...and he's on pace for 25 wins this season...surely a future HOF'er as well as Greg Maddux...
  • Next to the Mariners, the Braves are my next favorite team. I think they will do just fine. As for Glavine got a chance to play with him way back in 1986 for about a month, he was good then and has gotten only better. As for Andruw, he'll get better than he already is.
Can't wait till the M's vs. Braves
    Thanks, Robert.

  • yeah Glavine was borderline for HOF before this year, I think if he continues his pace this year he will be a lock. Greg Maddux is so close to 300 wins he can get 5 wins a year for 6 years and he's got it.
    hi
  • Haha Lopez hit a homerun as I read your post.. just not at the right time! Maybe this will be the Braves World Series year!

Also, back to Andruw.. I see him more than a 35 HR person.. he's got 18 right now and he's just 3-4 off from the leaders... He could easily do 40-45 a year, he just needs to work on his K's and batting average.
    hi
  • Maddux could retire tommorrow and still be a shoe in for the Hall of Fame. with 4 CY Young's how can they refuse him
    Thanks, Robert.

Maddux is one of the top 5 pitchers of all-time in my opinion...yeah, he has won 4 Cy Young awards in his career...but how about this stat...

11 straight gold glove awards! And that's a major league record for ANY pitcher...
  • I luv AJ . He's on my rotis team.

The Braves will have to make
some estute trades to go deep in
    the postseason. They need depth,
more bullpen choices, and a first
    baseman.

  • That's a sweet stat, I don't see any pitcher touching that record for decades. I think this will finally be the year for the Braves.
    Thanks, Robert.

More bullpen choices? We have the best bullpen in the National League if not the entire majors according to Peter Gammons and if you watched the Braves games every game like I do, you'd think the same thing...especially Mike Remlinger...he ALWAYS shut them down! We have an awesome bullpen. We just need a 1st baseman (although Julio Franco is starting to come through)...
  • No doubt about the bull pen, I would say they are tied with the best pen in the Majors right along with Seattle.
When the bull pen finally comes in for either team the games pretty much over with.
    Thanks, Robert.

  • Last night, the Atlanta pitched from the 2nd inning to the what.. 14th? without letting a run score.. several bullpen pitchers came in and pitched scoreless innings.
    hi
  • That was sweet, watched that also, switching between the Braves and Mariners.
Like I said I can't wait till the Braves play the M's

Yup...our bullpen ROCKS! Everything is started to work for us these past 25 games...After this game is over, we'd have won 19 of the last 25 games! I just hope another postseason of slackers doesn't hit us again like it has in the past...seems we just don't come to play in the postseason and that's where it REALLY counts....if we continue to play like we are right now...then we're definitely on the right path to the October classic...just as long as we WIN it...image

The Braves are hot right now. I gotta give them props for that. Could they win another ring? I don't think so. They would give any AL team that makes it to the WS a good run for there money, but I think the AL would beat them for the rings.

D-Maddux one of the Top 5 of pitchers of all time?? Well my top 5 goes like this: Ya got Cy Young, Walter Johnson, Satchel Paige, Nolan Ryan, Roger Clemens.

I truely hope it's a Yanks VS. Braves matchup come october. Maybe we'll sweep ya again image
I would like to see it go to game 7 though, nice, hard fought series. Then the real players would show up, and the fakers would shutup.
Yankees and Braves each have great pitching, hitting, and history. Then after the series, you would say and I quote "Ah, maybe they'll win it next year".
  • DerrickDerrick Posts: 4,287 ✭✭
Roger is NOT top 5 material...Maybe top 10, but no where near top 5. Maddux has better average per year stats than Roger and Roger has pitched longer...and they're not far from each other's win total...Both great, but Maddux is a greater pitcher OVERALL than Clemens...

If the Yankees had a salary cap (which every sport needs), then they wouldn't be BUYING all these championships. I think it's a shame...
  • Wait... dont the Yankees need to be at least first place in their division to go to the postseason?? Oh yeah I forgot they can get the wild card.. haha
    hi
  • I think the Braves will do great against any team in the post season, I would say that this is one of the best Braves teams in years.
I think this will finally be the year that the Yankees don't make it all the way. Plus look what Arizona did to them last year in the WS.
No one thought that was going to happen
    Thanks, Robert.

This is the BEST Braves team since 1991! We have it all...pitching, bullpen, and loads of power and not to mention a great bench. We also have a helluva farm system...which A LOT of teams wish they had the best farm system that the Braves have. We're continously racking out the great players from the minors in our system...

Anyhow, this Braves team is destined for a championship. This is probably the best team OVERALL that we've ever had...even better than our 1995 Championship team...I'm hoping for a salary cap to be put on baseball, and that'll knock down some of the Yankees' buying ways...then we'll see who the REAL championship team is. The Yankees would be good with a salary cap anyway, but not as good. The Braves can be successful without buying our teams...that's why we have such an awesome farm system...Braves all the way in 2002!

D-Your talking about the Yanks buying championships????? Okay, we bought Clemens, Giambi(he is new), Ventura(new), and Mussina(friggin loser) and thats about it. Hell, Mussina, Ventura, and Gaimbi had nothing to do with the dominance of the Yanks in the 90's-00's, not yet anyway. Bernie, Jeter, Soraino, Petite, Rivera, Posada, and N. Johnson are all from our minors. Lets look at the Braves, you bought(or traded for) Maddux, Franco, Sheffield, Castilla, and Surhoff. You guys also had a great farm system, with the likes of the Joneses, Furcal, and Lopez.

And about that Clemens in the top 10 and Maddux in the top 5 shiznit? Go by numbers, not emotions.

Lostsoul-Last years world series, where were the braves at? The Yankees were there, played til Game 7. Almost won it. The braves won what 1 ring in home many times of going to the WS in the 1990's? Yanks went 5 times and won 4 times.

The d'backs were just as good as the Yanks last year, they got lucky. The winning hit in the 9th inning of game 7 in the World Series?? That ain't greatness thats luck. If they had sweeped the Yanks or taken them in 5, I would have considered them a better team than the yanks. But how does Atlanta figure into last years world series? Easy they weren't there.

D-The single A Delmarva Shorebirds(Orioles Affiliate) have there stadium here, if you want me to, I'll go there when the Macon braves are playing them and get you a auto'ed team ball.

Hell yeah, put a salary cap on baseball. We got Giambi, Williams, and Jeter for a lonnnnnggggg time. It will be good for baseball.
  • Until Baseball places a salary cap, with the money George has to pay his players, the highest payroll in baseball. If the other owners did that they would have a World Series team as well. Yes I'm a braves fan but a bigger Mariners fan. I know that they wern't in the WS either, because that looser we just traded to the Angles (Aaron Sele) Seattle would have won the ALCS if it wasn't fo that "can't win in the post season, piece of crap Aaron Sele" we know that because the M's have dominated the Yanks since 1995. I agree you have the best Shortstop in the game today, but I don't think that Giambi will be that much help.
    Thanks, Robert.

2002 Team comparison: Last updated June 11, 2002.

LEAGUE G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO SB CS OBP SLG AVG
    1. New York Yankees
    AL 65 2243 361 618 115 5 104 347 1055 258 502 34 14 .356 .470 .276

    2. Atlanta Braves
    NL 64 2248 279 571 102 13 64 266 891 198 403 35 18 .317 .396 .254

I think you guys have had better teams. The Braves have been beasting lately though.

I think Giambi will be a great asset. So far....
    J Giambi NYY 1B 64 236 43 75 17 0 16 47 140 42 49 0 2 .433 .593 .318

He was s*cking a*s earlier this year, and has found his stroke
  • imageimage

    Ouch!
    Am I speaking Chinese?

    image
  • How about this:

NAME GMS AVG SLG OBP OPS H BB SO HR R RBI
    Mariners: 63 .282 .425 .358 .783 611 257 376 55 344 327

    Yankees 64 .276 .470 .356 .826 618 258 502 104 361 347

I agree that Giambi has found his homerun stroke, but what about situational hitting, one unfortuantlly he's not great at.
Which is what he'll need down the streatch. I also agree that the Braves are on a hot streak right now, but as we all have seen before streaks can usually end.
    Thanks, Robert.

So how exactly have the Mariner's dominated the Yankees, no one in the AL or NL has DOMINATED the Yanks since 96'. When the Mariner's win a world series, then you can talk shiznit. Last year you guys had what, 116 wins. But you didn't make it to the WS. That's all that matters, the Mariners have no playoff experience and the Yanks showed them last and will do it again this year. You blame 1 player for losing a series, don't pick him for your scapegoat since he was traded. The Mariner's lost, not Sele.

BTW-Your graph shows that the Yanks have...
A higher slg.%, more hits, more base on balls, nearly twice as many homeruns, more runs, and more rbi's.
So the M's have a higher batting avg. and less strikeouts, which go hand in hand. Thanks for proving my point. Your stats only made the yanks look better.

Not a great situational hitter-Did ya forget that 14th innning grand slam game winner? Runner up MVP last year, I think we all would know if he wasn't good in the clutch.
