Need Reputable Dealer in Dallas

CoinosaurusCoinosaurus Posts: 9,645 ✭✭✭✭✭

I have a relative looking to sell the typical mix of 20th century "stuff" - assorted 90% silver, circulated Indians cents and Buffalo nickels, etc. They were very casual collectors. Any recommendations for a Dallas dealer? I'm assuming this is much too small potatoes for Heritage. Total value a few hundred at most.

Doesn't hurt to check w/Heritage & ask them for recommendations.

Make sure that they don't whack you for an appraisal fee for suggesting "that coin dealer across town".

Isn't Ed Hipps Rare Coins, now run by his son Lance, located in Dallas? Ed passed away in 2016, but Lance has essentially run the business for several years now, and I have always found them to be a pleasure to deal with. You might give them a try.

Tom and Sandy's coins. Actually midway between Dallas and houston, but they are at all the local shows. Nice people and they sell EVERYTHING, so they have to buy it...

For that little bit of money it's probably best to just hit one of the local coins shows and shop them. Next one in the area is next week Friday and Saturday. COWTOWN COIN SHOW near Ft Worth Tx.

Their jewelry division mistakenly sent me a $5K diamond bracelet. I kept it for 1+ month awaiting instructions.

Then out of the blue, their "security" person called me and offer me a $100 as a reward to return it, otherwise they'd call LE.

I told them to donate their "generous" reward to a non profit agency of their choice.

I used to buy stuff like that when I worked at Heritage many many many moons ago.

I bet they stil buy like that from the public and would certainly give you competitive prices that you can count on. For sure.

I don't know of any reputable dealers in Dallas, but there should be quite a few in Las Vegas..........

This is the kind of "stuff" Heritage puts in their "Gallery" bulk-lot auctions. Just call and if they'll do it based on your list, just do it , and at their number it's not worth your time to shop for another price on flea market material.

Sad that "reputable' is a necessary word when shopping for dealers of coins.
