Baseball Photo Identification

I posted these on Net54 but figured I would give them a try over here as well. Any idea on where or who this may be? Thanks.

If somewhere there are specs of old ballparks, perhaps you could key in on the 407 ft and 404 ft markers to figure out which ballpark it is?

Looks like somewhere with no trees, no tall city buildings, and no mountains or other changes in topography, so that is at least something. And based on some similar product/billboard ads google found, I think the date is mid to late '30's maybe?

Based on the "SOCONY" (Standard Oil Company of New York) sign, I'd guess that it's somewhere in/around New York.

Also, it looks to me, that the second baseman's jersey says "New York" or perhaps more likely "Newark". Thing is, if it has his team's city on it, it's probably the road jersey.

The Neward Bears played in the International League.

It also appears that the runner at third is wearing a uniform that has a "B" on it.

So, that narrows it down to possibly either Baltimore MD, or Buffalo NY, as it looks like they were the only Intl Lg teams in a city that began with a "B". I'd start there and see what you find.

Actually, it looks like it's Braves Field in Boston, according to a post over on Net54. I looked on the internet at other photos id'd as Braves Field, and that appears correct.

So it is a major league field, and the teams would appear to be the Braves and the Giants.

The picture shows a billboard for Green River whiskey. That company went out of business around 1909. Could the picture be from around that time ? Also, the picture doesn't show any buildings more than two floors behind the stadium. That area of Boston had a lot of sort of tall building since the late 30's.

Braves field it is. I found a few similar images with the same ads in the outfield but none have dates associated with them. Lights were added in 1946 but I am not sure if the angle of my images would show the lights. Thanks for the help and feel free to add any additional information if known.

Not sure if this will help. 3rd base coach is #30 obviously. According to Boston Braves rosters on Baeballalmanac.com the Boston Braves did not have a player wear #30 from 1945 through 1951. So it's possible for this to be between 45-51. 1941 thru 1944 and 1952 had a player with #30. Or of course, it could be prior to 1941. I couldn't find rosters with numbers prior to 1941.

From 1946 - 1951, the Boston Braves manager was Billy Southworth (HOFer). He wore #30. The manager on alot of teams back then, coached 3rd base.

I'm leaning to the photo being from 1949. In looking at the rosters of the NL teams from 1946-1951 (B Southworth's years as Braves manager), I can find no instances when any team had a 3rd baseman who wore #26.

The closest I can find is the 1949 NY Giants, where Bobby Hofman wore #26. According to Baseball-Reference.com, he played only at 2nd base that year, and in only 19 games. He didn't play in 1950-51. In 1952 he was back with the Giants, and played 3rd base, but wore a different number (and of course, Southworth was no longer with the Braves). I'm supposing it is possible that he played at least an inning at 3rd base sometime in 1949, against the Braves, in Boston.

It’s still there, but looks just a little different now. Now it is Nickerson field. Home of Boston University.

Small parts of the park are still at BU. The left field wall and parts of the grand stand.
