Egypt Silver - Beautifully Toned Gems 10 Qirsh and 20 Qirsh

A couple of recent submissions. With the TrueView promotion last quarter, the photos are just too nice not to share. And the coins - they too, are quite exceptional!

Tough to tell from the images but you’ve got a sharp eye! The 20 qirsh does appear as proof like, although the 10 Q definitely doesn’t. Just has amazing “middle east toning”.

Thanks to all of you who commented. I find Egypt coins a challenging series, due to both relatively scarce mintages and mint state survivors. The color or toning is just gravy! I'm building my Registry sets for Egypt; I find it's an easy way to keep the series well cataloged. Not too many collectors pursuing this area of coinage, which I like!

Those are two gorgeous coins! The toning is interesting, as I have a couple of Turkish silver coins from approximately the same era that display the same look. Atom calls it "middle east toning," a term I had not heard before, but certainly seems appropriate.

BTW, one small point: when I went to download the photos, I noted that the PCGS website has the 10 qirsh listed as an AH 1293/10W. Isn't it actually an AH 1293/29W (like the 20 qirsh)? If so, you may want to let them know (I don't know what is on the holder...it may be correct).

    Good catch Greig

I noticed it immediately and already have contacted them for returning and correcting the label. It’s odd to me that they made the error, since I entered the correct date on the submission!

bump for a question , I was looking at a 20 qirsh and comparing it to my krause book the date is not listed . The ascension date is ok but the year doesn't show in the table. However there is a note at the bottom saying later dates exist for this type.

I have taken a shine to islamic coins lately and I'm confused about this. It seems like a later date would overlap into the next version of the type , why would that happen? Were both being struck at the same time?

I should add that those are stunning examples and the thread deserved a bump for that reason too B)

every once in a while I'll take an interest in some new to me type of foreign coin and look for a pocket piece to live with for a while , it gives me an excuse to learn about different countries and usually leads to me searching the forum and bumping old threads that maybe others would enjoy seeing again. B)

This is the nicest 20 qirsh that I’ve seen ever since I sold my Heaton minted example. Fantastic!

Thanks for your comment. It is the most appealing one I've seen too, with prooflike surfaces and delicate toning.
