The molitor and stolen base leaders look minty. photo represents some of the nicer cards and HOF's.

A nando sighting. But the Yount takes the prize right now. It begging to be submitted.

I saw this fellow up above my house. Been here 22 years and first Bobcat i've ever seen.

Nice start to the box! Corners look awesome and centering on most is perfect!

Keep that Bobcat away from those cards - although he might be looking for a stick of that delicious gum :)

    Go Dodgers!

Good luck JB! Looks good so far. Thanks for sharing the pic of the bobcat. Never saw one in my 21 years in Nor CA.

Finished off the rest of the box. Pretty happy with the results. All high end/centered minty cards will go into my raw set. The rest are available, as are my previous rips from '78-'83. I have lots of very nice +NM pack fresh sharp raw cards from those years; all from rips in the past year.

Rose is a beauty. Michael, you're next.

Yount, T/B centering keeps it at a 9 IMO. Any hits on a Gibby??

Ya know,, I've ripped on 80's Baseball in the past, big time. Just thought it had become so overdone and drab. But this reverts my thinking a bit. Beautiful cards.

Love the 81s. Thanks for sharing your results. Looking forward to the other box rips, too.

Big fan of the 81 traded series. Not so much regular issue, except Fernando, Raines, Rickey and Ryan.

Kiss me once, shame on you.

Finally got around to opening my 81 box last night, and was feeling pretty enthusiastic!

This may have been the strangest box I've ever opened. Felt a lot more like vending than wax, as the collation was absolutely terrible, reminiscent of an 81 Donruss box. Multiple packs with the same cards, and not stars. Plenty of poorly centered junk, and surface/edge issues galore, which was not overly surprising

Some nicely centered league leader and highlights cards, and a Ryan sighting!

Decided to eat a stick of the 37 year old gum about halfway through the box to try and change my luck, and land elusive Fernando! Got a couple in worse shape than the gum!

Reviewed all the centered cards (roughly 100 of the 540 total), selected 17 for further evaluation, and ended up with these 7 as the best of the bunch -

7 potentially gradable cards out of 540! :)

    Go Dodgers!

Those Valenzuelas pictured are the reason I chuckle when people say, "because there is still so much 1981 unopened out there, a PSA 10 is bound to show up".

Maaaaybe...I guess anything is possible, but as Dmitri Young has been quoted as saying, "that card is usually a real turd". A whole confluence of coincidences would have to have occured to accidentally produce a pristine Valenzuela, because just the normal printing and packaging produced a plethora of straight from the pack atrocities just like those.

Anyway, thanks for sharing the results of your 81 rip!

Wasn't there supposed to be a third wax box of 81s being ripped over the holidays?

Very enjoyable thread to follow. I have always really liked the look of 81 Topps. As others have said, I love the Yount! Lots of other sharp cards in there as well, in particular the Vuckovich, Luzinski, and Welch.

Always looking for tougher PSA 10's of Nolan Arenado, Alex Bregman, Mookie Betts, Francisco Lindor, and Mike Trout.

Michael, sorry to hear about your box. I also got duplicates in the same pack. Your league leader cards look great. Seebelow was next, but if he bows out, I'll rip another box.
