5th Annual Birthday Rip
It's that time of year again. Amongst other things, Scott is in the middle of his Christmas Carnage and my birthday is on the horizon. So I prepare for my 5th annual birthday rip, absolutely inspired by the 12 Days of Christmas Carnage, except I do multi-sport, and not as much value. We all know the story. This is likely a losing prop...but there's always a chance.
That said I'll be traveling for work during my birthday this year for the first time in ages and thus will likely do my rip early, leaning 27th and possibly into 28th.
On the menu this year:
1975 Topps mini wax
1977 OPC wax
Something from 1980
1991 Topps DS wax
1977 Topps FB wax
1978 Topps FB wax tray
1983 Topps FB wax
1986 Topps FB grocery
1980 Topps BK
1984 OPC Hockey
Some other stuff may slide in.
I'm torn on the order so taking votes on opening act and closing act.
Openers are between 77 BB OPC, 83 FB, 84 HK OPC.
Closers are between 91 BB TDS, 77 FB and 80 BK

Looking forward Jim.
Happy Birthday buddy!
.
In order of takedown
is that about a $1k value of packs?
Save me the Rickey!
First two packs are down with a cup of coffee.
Some star power and a rookie in each. WooHoo!
I'm OK with this start, but hope to finish the same way.
More to come throughout the day....stay tuned.
Leave it to 1980 Topps BB to reset expectations...
Byron McLaughlin sighting! Been on the lam for years now after being convicted of money laundering.

hahaha !!! . now THAT is funny Too Cool Bryon Stay hid !
78 FB is down. Yielded a RC and some Cowboys, but not an RC Cowboy. Oh well. Trays are awesome though. Only took pics of 12 cards per pack. Loved Butch Johnson growing up. Griese looks pretty nice and Fred Dean RC.
No point in even taking a pic of the 86 FB packs. Pretty much all bad. Took a pic of best 3 of the 48...and one major C-Tease. Bucs...QB...named Steve. Too bad it was Deberg.
77 OPC centering is almost universally brutal. I can't believe I once pulled a Ryan that graded PSA 9.
The best centered card happens to be best card in the pack, at least. Nice Rice!

Really waiting in eager anticipation for those last 4 packs!
77 FB and 75 mini failed to deliver...though the cards are pretty sharp overall. A pair of packs left to save the day.
Tough break on the mini pack but thanks for sharing your results, Jim~great stuff!

It was definitely not a rip for the ages, at least not in a good way. That said, my expectations are always realistically low. Many of these will be upgrades or fillers to raw sets, which always takes a "little" sting out of it. But one of the big things for me, is that on top of collecting cards I like to collect experiences. Ripping things I've ripped in the past brings back fond memories, and ripping things before my time is a whole different rush. Either way, experiences while cool, can be costly, but there's always that chance for a hit, and I have had some good ones that hold a special place in my PC. Still, these are a once a year event for me for a reason.
With that, on to the disappointing finish...
More pack fresh cards, maybe a few sub candidates, but unfortunately devoid of any real star power.
Til next year....
Have a Happy New Year.
Thanks so much for sharing! Was really hoping for a major hit but will have to just look forward so something major next year!
Thank you for sharing and Happy Birthday.
Some tough results. Thanks for sharing and Happy Birthday!!
