Very first PSA graded card you bought off of EBAY ?

Didn't want to infringe on the other excellent EBAY thread going on now, but do you remember the very first PSA graded card you ever bought off of ebay ?

Mine was a PSA 7 Bobby Orr card.

I'll confess, I don't -- it certainly was a cheaper card, probably under $30 -- I remember dipping my toes slowly into eBay at first. I remember the second purchase I ever made, in 1998 -- a small poster I got arrived in a flat cardboard mailer, clearly marked "DO NOT BEND", bent firmly in half and jammed into my mailbox. LOL, I got an eBay lesson in setting my expectations right from the start!

Mine was a 1987 Donruss Mark McGwire PSA 9 on Jan 6, 2001, that I paid $34.50 for.

I didn't buy my second PSA card until Jun 19, 2001, when I paid $135.50 for a PSA 8 1986 OPC Patrick Roy.

I was mainly concentrating at the time, on SD Chargers & Padres media guides and certified autographed/relic cards, raw LA Rams from the 1950s and 1960s, and 2001 Topps Heritage Baseball.

The biggest lesson I've learned in this hobby, and in life, is that if you have a strong conviction, you owe it to yourself to see it through. Don't sell yourself, or your investments, short. Unless the facts change. Then sell it all.

My first graded card off eBay was my first graded card period and also my first Jim Brown rookie card! Was a PSA 6, cracked it out at the time since I wasn't really into graded cards yet. Had it regraded years later, came back a PSA 5 :(

Hmm. That's a good question. I know the first item I bought in a PSA holder was a PSA / DNA item:

The first set I collected was the 1965 Dallas Cowboys team set. If I had to guess, it was this card:

I still have the Renfro auto, but upgraded the Don Meredith to a PSA 9 and sold the 8.

1998 traded it two years ago and bought it back last summer. Postal money order mailed and waited, seemed like forever as it was compared to our expectations of two day delivery.

Exodus, apparently you don't because if you did you would've cited the year and issue of the card, not just who it was and the grade lol :D

Mine was a Bird Erving Magic rookie psa 8--notice I didn't mention the year or the issue because, well, it goes without saying ;):)

It wasn't on ebay but i remember my first graded card purchase over the phone from a fairly large PSA dealer around 01-02. It was a Nomar Garciaparra 1992 Topps Traded USA team rc PSA 9 and i was devastated the day the package arrived in the mail because someone on the postal route sliced open the package, took the card then retaped the envelope. I basically got an empty package and an eventual refund from the seller but was bummed seeing Nomar was my favorite Sox player. After purchasing a couple 92 topps traded sets i eventually hit on a PSA 10 Nomar on a sub.

I don't remember my first on ebay but I still have the first PSA card I ever purchased. 1958 Ed Mathews All-Star in the early 90s at a large show in Cleveland.

1998 Fleer Ultra Tavian Banks rookie graded PSA 9 mint. I paid with money and (exact change) taped to a printed out invoice inside. Back in 1999...

1956 Ted Williams PSA 8 for $475 at the Cleveland National in 1997. Over the next 3 years I bought every Williams PSA 8 I could from 1954 and 1955, and they almost tripled in price from $1700-1800 to over $5000 each. At the time there was only a pop of 21-24 of each and a very tough card to find. Did very few Mantle cards at that time since I had quite a few personal items from him so did not see the need to grab a bunch of Mickey's cards - smart move :#

    Hiya Keith

The OP was asking about "eBay" - do you remember?

    I don't.

I'll have to take a look. It might be a mistake I made and didn't realize it wasn't a PSA card - it was one of those that

referenced PSA and "not" PSA - was a very interesting exchange.

edit: checked paypal and it was what I thought was a PSA 10 Griffey RC.

Was my "first" experience with eBay and I learned to read carefully every sale.

Turned out to be a "GEM" card!

Had the most "interesting" exchange between the owner - Kane04 where at one point he referred to me as "Sparky."

In fact, I mentioned this a long time ago when the discussion of GEM came up.

Oh. I wound up getting a refund from GEM! Wish I had scanned the check for the record.

So, after mentioning Kane04 here - I got a call from the guy. He was very apologetic - and we had a nice conversation.

I still don't agree with him selling this crap - but that's his business and no one has dubbed me the "official" eBay policeman.

A 1986 PSA 9 Donruss Jose Canseco in 1999 for $100. Sold it about a year later locally for the price I paid. Wasn't long after that prices began coming down due to more graded cards hitting the market. I could probably get a PSA 10 for that now if I wanted. 2008 rebirth of my collection I picked up a 1988 Score Traded Glossy PSA 10 Mark Grace for $25 ppd.

Bought it last April for $44 when i started my PSA 9/10 Jeter rookie card collection. Been out of the hobby since the mid 90's and just started again. I can say for sure, wife isn't happy lol, but in the past few months I have obtained a lot of cards and now have a decent collection. Ive since branched out to also collect Judge and other random staples from the 80's, 90's and present.
