Scams/ Rip-Offs/ Shadiness/ or Laughable Misunderstandings...What's ur experience?

I just recalled this. Some of the details are hazy because this was several years ago......
When I was selling off my unopened, a guy bought a BBCE wrapped 1975 cello box on ebay. A few days later he emailed me with, "I opened the cello packs and ALL 24 packs had a 1975 card on top with a stack of 1979 cards below it." Asking for a refund. I replied, "Wow, I trust Steve of BBCE and I'm surprised he was fooled that every one of the 24 cello packs were rewrapped. And he didn't pick up on a single one."....I didn't hear from him again....This one was laughable from the beginning and wasn't at all worried at this sad attempt.
Interested in higher grade vintage cards. Aren't we all.

Then theres the one where they stole the image of my 1964 Mantle PSA 8. Where our very own KendallCat here was buying it on ebay not knowing I still owned it. We later determined that, yes, my wife was at home that day with the '64 Mantle in her hand. KC got a refund.....Forgot if ebay did anything?
lesson...beware the image lifters then trying to sell it. ugh and grrrrrr
Oh, ripping a 1983 Topps box the other day and found a 1980 pack in the middle. Seems the 1980 pack is just a tad lighter blue wrapper than the '83.
lesson...get even $150 modern boxes BBCE certified.
the buying group?
For those who have been in the hobby for a bit.
Strike Zone.
Bought a 55T Jackie Robinson - came to me in a screw down that looked crushed. Returned it.
Sent back to me in a top loader even tho I said I didn't want it - an SCD ad item.
Return it again.
On Saturday nite - 1992 - get a call from Rick giving me a hard time. I was shocked and didn't say much.
Got off and then decided to *67 or 69 - can't remember - this was our form of caller ID back then.
I told him off - "who the hell do you think you are...." and all that.
He then proceeds to tell me some weird crap how he's under a lot of stress and personal issues - I just told him to refund my money and we'll call it even.
What a tool!
I remember buying 87 Fleer baseball wax packs at a local show. Thought something was odd, that they may have been searched/resealed. Why? They contained a few cards that only were in the factory sets that year-World Series set cards.
This guy was a little to obvious with his schilling. His "0" feedback buyer never paid now its listed again as a BIN for $600/bo just 3hrs after this auction ended .

Back around the year 2000, I won a PSA 9 1985 Topps Kirby Puckett RC. It arrived as a 1985 Puckett in a screw down holder, probably in Ex-Mint condition at best. I contacted the seller and told him I bid on the item described and pictured in the auction and that is what I expected to receive. He replied that it shouldn't matter because the card I received would be graded a 9 if it were to be sent to PSA so I really did receive a PSA 9 equivalent. It took a few back and forth emails and finally eBay intervention before I got my money back. His final email to me stated he hoped "I was happy" by causing him so much trouble with eBay and that I should learn more about baseball cards if I am going to buy them on eBay.
I bought a 2001 SPA Tiger Woods Auto PSA 10 in early 2009 from a guy in Arkansas. He sent me a 2001 UD Tiger Woods BGS 9.5 base card. I complained to eBay and PayPal and they ruled against me. I went straight to AMEX and they corrected the situtation for me. PayPal sent me a nasty gram saying I should have used their BS system next time.
I was able to Google the seller and found out he was the President of a small consulting company that did work for Wal Mart in Arkansas. He is a big Razorbacks fan......figures.

In circa 2003 or 04 I bought what was said to be a complete set of 1996-97 Topps Chrome NBA. The set arrived but all but two of the rookies were missing. Apparently the seller was too clueless to realize they were rookies when he was stealing my cards out of the set. I was unable to get any of my money back but I did get him banned from the board so he couldn't steal from anyone else. I still don't have most of the rookies...it aggravates me to no end to have to pay for them again.
Just this week I had somebody try to extort cards out of me by claiming I didn't send him part of a trade that I actually sent. I agreed to, with significant misgivings, but he never bothered to send me a list of cards off my tradelist and gave me my first negative feedback in 18 years of trading cards online. Luckily, everybody knows my reputation that I trade with and I've already had several people comment to that fact.
Best of both worlds, player and team name correct in item details, typos get people to post about it on message boards expanding exposure.
back many moons ago I was trying to buy a Jordan psa 8 rookie. paid for it never received the card. luckily charged it thru paypal and the credit cards company. a lot of headaches later got it fixed but no card. seller was in Boston area. then a couple months later received a call from the FBI, my first, regarding the guy selling the card multiple times to anyone he could with no card. they investigated not sure what ever happened to the guy. I am assuming there is a place in hell for him. live and learn
I got my 8 for my set and it worked out but soured me at the time. still hesitant to pay via paypal. but I think its better now.
collecting RAW Topps baseball cards 1952 Highs to 1972. looking for collector grade (somewhere between psa 4-7 condition). let me know what you have, I'll take it, I want to finish sets, I must have something you can use for trade.
looking for Topps 71-72 hi's-62-53-54-55-59, I have these sets started
..listing an 8.5 and stating its a 1 of 1 and priced higher than a 9.5 would be....although many 9s and 10s...true i suppose...a bit shady though
Had that earlier this year with a box of 1990 Leaf Series II baseball. "Frankenstine" box, some may have been re-sealed too. No Thomas, Justice, L. Walker or N. Ryan(or any of the cards that would have been in the packs those four cards were in). 3-4 copies of every other card, though. I had planned to open it over a period of time and decided to open the top eight packs the first day. After opening those two rows, and getting nothing and having two "identical" packs next to each other, I got real suspicious and began opening the rest "until I found a Thomas". As I opened more, I realized I had been taken. Box wasn't exactly "sealed" when I got it, and the listings was no longer available for me to check to make sure it said sealed or unopened. After fuming for hours and swearing I'd call them and demand a refund the next day, I just chalked it up to my loss and wont deal with that company again. They had a bunch of wax from around 1980 through the mid 1990's.
I actively collect Kirby Puckett. I have collections of Michael Jordan, Emmitt Smith, Roberto Clemente, Dwight Gooden, Tom Seaver, Errict Rhett and Evan Longoria.

I don't see anything underhanded here. 9 of 24 is a serial number. Am I missing something? Use of the word "rare" seems more warranted here than most.
The guy is asking $645 for a card that sells usually in the $20-40 range. He listed an 8.5 thats priced higher than a 9.5. At his asking price you could probably get TWO 9.5 copies of this Fleer AS. I never said it was underhanded,i just compared it to seebelow's comment because they sounded similar. thats all.

i agree. never said underhanded...a bit shady charging more for an 8.5 than a 9.5 goes for....sigh
I had a buyer demand a refund for a "fake" '69 Mantle Topps beater I sold him because it did not have the Topps copyright onbthe back..... When I showed him that the '69 Mantle has no such copyright line with an example on a high grade PSA card, he quickly clammed up and thanked me for the great purchase......
Ouch! Kids don't try this at home.

I don’t think the cards been damaged!!! Just a flesh wound?
Thanks for the link got the card for $75 if the card looks ok I will crack it out and resub it if not I will
send it back. Would be real fun if I crack it out and sub it and it comes back a PSA 9.

This guy has been trying to scam buyers into paying with eBay gift cards about 30 times since this past weekend. He's asking people to contact him before paying so he can talk them into using the gift cards as payment. The listings keep getting pulled but he puts them right back up.

These usually sell $5k+ and this guy is listing them at $600,$1000 & $2000. The scammers are using multiple high positive feedback accounts.

How about when you have a card listed on the Bay as BIN with best offer feature. A person submits a best offer that the system declines so it is obviously less than the amount you are willing to take. Then sends you a message asking if you will take said amount. Now that's not too bad but the part I love is where they add in "I'll buy more from you". Like selling one card under value is going to be incentive to sell more of them to that person, which they will obviously want cheaper too. "Hey, how about you hit some of those buy it now buttons and then I'm probably going to be more likely to sell you another card at a reduced price." -- Me
