No updates, just wanted to share a new framed item from the original scrapbook. I gave these to my in-laws earlier in the year with the design drawn up for how I'd like them framed - they came out great and the framed item was gifted today on Christmas! These were two clippings and some other skinned World Wide Gum cards that I wanted to be able to display.
So, I accepted the return back on 12/22/17 and paid for the return label/shipping. The buyer still has not sent the cards back and since communication stopped, I called eBay tonight to ask what the status is and how long I have to wait for the return. eBay stated that there was no tracking number provided and thus the buyer hasn't shipped the cards yet - the eBay rep stated that they were closing both cases in my favor and that I did not need to send any refund.
So, I don't feel like this is the end to this. Once again, I don't mind refunding the buyer but I need to have the cards back first - especially after all this. Part two, I certainly don't want a negative feedback for all this crap.
The notation about feedback makes me feel better, I hope it is true. I don't know why something like feedback bothers me so much, but between the two eBay accounts (personal/business) I have had since 2000, there have been zero negatives/neutrals. I didn't want to start with this one since I'm not sure what the heck I could have done differently.
Awesome!...The buyer was a tool!..He was just trying to get them for free and keep...Accepting the return keeps you in the good graces of eBay and when they don't even take the time to send back, you know it was all "BS" from the beginning, just another way to try and take you for your money and cards..Buyers like this hate it when you do the "proper" thing thru eBay, they just want the refund and the merchandise!...I had this happen with a couple of items, where the buyer stated it wasn't correct and then as soon as I approved the return, never heard from them again!
I have started to pre-emptively block bidders based on the questions they send me. I know it may seem harsh but this is still a hobby for me and I don't need the headache just for a few bucks.
I had recent potential buyer send me a bunch of OCD questions on a $200 PSA 6. Finally I just told him that the card is an average 6 and probably isn't high end enough based on his questions. I recommended that he find another card. He sent me a snarky reply so I ended up blocking him.
Harsh? Maybe. I have no problem with clarifying questions but I didn't need his dissertation on the card. It is PSA 6 and proud of it, it wasn't going to bump to 7 or 8 (great centering though). There are way too many great buyers on eBay, no need to take the risk of coming across trouble.
It never ceases to amaze me that people like this buyer actually exist. What a nightmare.
You went WAY above and beyond in your communication with him. I think most of us would have shut him down much sooner.
Block him. Forget him.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
Glad it worked out for you. It's crazy to me that you had such a hard time. I just finished going through a nightmare return via paypal after 90 days where I was the buyer. It was an absolute textbook NAD. I had before and after pics, a lock solid timeline, receipt from PSA, and even a letter from PSA that they were kind enough to provide stating my case. Every time they found in my favor, two hours would go by and I'd get message that they reversed the refund and found in the seller's favor upon their appeal. The seller literally had no evidence (they completely misrepresented the damage on a slab). The case had FIVE APPEALS. It's closed now and still says they found in the seller's favor but I got a refund because I spend so god damn much they didn't want to lose me as a customer. I wish I knew what magical beans the seller had, I'd share them with all the legit sellers that get taken for a ride by shady buyers.

There was a time, up to probably fairly recently, I would have found this ridiculous. But stories like the OP and others are making this seem more and more reasonable as I start selling more, though I haven't started implementing a similar policy yet.

This is a rare move for me. Over the past year I've done it less than 5 times. The other times I did it was for buyers that sent me many lowball offers for a card along with messages in all caps. I was concerned they would hit the BIN and try to negotiate a lower price later.
On the flip side of this, there are people like myself who will ask a question if the title and or description lacks information. For some of my projects, for uniformity reasons, I will reach out and ask a question(s), but will limit it to one message. I’d say probably 40-50% of the time, I do not get a response, which in turn costs you a sale. I promise that if I’m inquiring, I’m interested and am not wasting your time.
I can’t stress enough when listing something, try to be as thorough as possible as to prevent questions. I know there are nut jobs out there that would create chaos no matter what. I don’t sell often, but when I do, I try to put everything down that I’d want to know...is it “tape intact” if an OPC issue, any condition issues with the box, etc. I’m sure most guys here do that, but neither side is perfect.
Always looking for OPC "tape intact" baseball wax boxes, and 1984 OPC baseball PSA 10's for my set. Please PM or email me if you have any available.

Just got this message in my eBay Inbox....

Good for you, I'm glad it all worked out.

Work in progress - Unopened Racks/Cello/Wax with star power for Baseball, Football and Basketball
Collecting unopened 80's boxes and graded packs
I may be hoarding too much 80's junk wax but I like it!
BTW, that is one awesome scrapbook!..

A couple observations:
It never ceases to amaze me that people like this buyer actually exist. What a nightmare.

I'm glad this worked out gargantuanly well in the end.

So glad I'm retired.
First, happy that this got nicely resolved.
Now, onto dealing with the public. Only one thing.
In general, it's great to deal with people "until" money is involved.
I also tend to block buyers who ask a ton of questions or are serial low ballers. It's just not worth dealing with the inevitable BS.

djr PM me who it is so I can make sure I never give them any business going forward.
Same here please. We need to stick together.
