I can't compete with most of these scores, but back when I was buying 1944 Henning counterfeit nickels I found one that was not attributed and got a Henning and a real 1944 war nickel for $1. The Henning is high grade XF/AU with mostly original surfaces and luster.
I also picked up an early 1960s Cuban banknote with the printed signature of Che Guevara who was head of treasury. Above the printed signature was an ink signature that I believe is an authentic Che signature. I have not had it authenticated but if real my $8 purchase is worth several hundred dollars or more.
Let me do a reversal here back in 2009 I was buying $25 box's of new Lincoln Cents Roll's and sold them for $2000 a box me and my banker sold a pallet of them he made $32K and I made $36K in two weeks now that was fun, One of many Scores on the Bay.
My best was a raw 1873-P Trade $ that was chopmarked, bought for $235 buy it now. Graded MS-62 and tied for finest known. Ended up in TDN's collection and recently sold to another Chopmark collector.

A gold coin in a scratched up holder that I cleaned up with scratch X and cac stickered; they offered me strong money for the green holder coin.
If I were a cunning scammer reading about guy's scores I would try to come up with fuzzy images of a super rarity and then shill the heck out of it in hopes that the suckers would jump in!
The problem with wins, whether gambling or with some skill is that they can create temptations for bigger risks and losses. I recently went to a few gamblers anonymous meetings due to my own scratch off experimentation, where I heard stories of people being wiped out of 5, 6, and 7 figure savings.

I won this 1825 Bust Half PCGS 45 earlier this year on eBay for a little under $400 (paid just over 50 price guide money for it).
Sent it in for regrade in its holder and it upgraded to 55!
The icing on the cake is that it’s a tough die marriage, O-104 R4+
A similarly graded O-104, untoned, PCGS 55 (see below) sold at auction a few years ago for $1350.
Although it’s not a huge YOU SUCK, it’s definitely a BIG SCORE for me and one I’m extremely happy with!
Mine, well, not exactly mine, but my girlfriends, was a reverse score. She 'garbage-picked' an early, late 20's' battery operated clock. It was red marble, lovely, but the guts were trashed. I stuck it on the 'flea' and it garnered 670.00 ! Boy, was she happy !
NGC Black Peace Dollar, at the time the only one of the Type (and one of 15). Back in the day when I actually looked at eBay and spent time seeking these things out . . . . bingo, an NGC Black appears. Has a BIN that was actually within reason . . . but also a "Make an Offer". I didn't really think seriously it would work, but I made an offer. Obviously a lot of money, but substantially less than the BIN. About 25 minutes later I checked . . . . I had won it.
The P.S. . . . . .
That night, although it was an eBay purchase and I had stayed low-profile . . . . I received an offer from a Board member . . .for 3x what I had paid. I appreciated it . . . but declined. Obviously, if some look at bidding histories or some bizarre algorithms . . . . the Identity of bidders can be procured.
All good. It still resides with me. I was recognized with a "You Suck" later that week . . .and it still remains my singularly most coveted award in a long and varied career . . .
Countless raw toners that graded but Ive never sold them so I dont think they qualify.
Best Ebay deal - half a roll of 1934-D Peace $ for $275.00 that all turned out to be the King of Peace VAMs - 34D VAM 4 - 1 end up being a Pop 1/0 and sold most of them for a total of $7000-$8000.

I have held that coin, amazing quality
11.5$ Southern Dollars, The little “Big Easy” set
Type2 you really sucked back in 2009. Why were they selling for so much?
Not coin, but really nice:
30 battery caps, plastic
Brand new in the package from Ford.
$30. Buy It Now
What made them nice is that they were brand new old stock (NOS) and are unique to a 1969 Ford Boss 429.
A set of 6 caps sells for $1800 to $2500, for 6 little pieces of plastic. I made 5 sets and slowly sold them off, well over $12,000 on them.
That's incredible. Knowledge is king.
For me it was looking at the 1922-D Lincoln Cent I bought by a very bad picture.

I paid about $75.00 and decided to ave the pic...
This is what I saw...

People already do that.
Collector, occasional seller
They where the 1st type and the 1st box's selling it was crazy, We kept doing it with all 4 types it was crazy good.

Bought a gold coin in PCGS plastic for slightly over melt, strictly for the plastic. Coin is one of only 10 minted.

I remember that "opportunity" bought that rare 1812/1 Bust half for $125 or so that was estimated to be worth around $10K.
None of that compares to the rips that dealers talk about that come to them at shops and shows.
