Tiger's Back - Live Break of a 2014 Exquisite Golf Case

I've wanted to buy one of these cases for a while. 3-Box Cases now sell for the same price as one box used to sell for. Now that Tiger is back, it motivated me to break a case. Here we go...

Box 1 - Each box has 5 Autos and 1 base card. Hit a Tiger 04/10 in Box 1! I should probably quit now, but I can't. 2 of the autos are LPGA players, which is nice but I hope isn't reflective of the case. By the chubby face, I think Kevin Stadler is the Walrus' kid.

Forgot to include Auto #5 for Box 1 - Mike Weir. Upper Deck really did a great job designing the set. The cards look great.

Box 2 - I've heard that Upper Deck packs Exquisite cases with one great box, one OK box, and one stinker box. I believe Box 2 is the sh*t box in the case. The total sale value of the singles is probably $25. I can see why this product sank after it was released. If paid anything close to the release price I would po'd at this box. I did get another Melissa Reid, too bad she isn't really golfer hot like Natalie Gulbis so at least I could get perv bids on it.

Box 3 - The pattern did hold. I guess Box 1 was the great box with Tiger. This box is the OK box with Michelle Wie and Johnny Miller. Still the total ebay sales for the singles is less than $75. UD is still honoring redemptions until the end of 2017, so I need to find out how to redeem.

Mike I had been thinking about buying a case and doing the exact same thing. After your prodigious TW hit I may have reached the point of no return.

    Congrats bud

It was a fun break. I have an outside shot at getting my money back with the Tiger, but most likely I will lose around $100 on the break. I probably won't buy another case or box since 2 of the 3 I busted really stunk. This is consistent with what I've seen from other breaks. I'm sure UD didn't intend for 2/3 of the boxes to blow, I think it just turned out that way. The only big "rookie" is Rory, the rest of the "rookies" never panned out and Speith is not in the set.

Thanks Stephen. I was in grad school when Tiger had his breakout Masters. Me and my buddies sat in the grad lounge watching Tiger destroy the field. That got me into golf and I have always been a fan. I know a lot of people don't like him anymore but I want to see him come back and win at least one more major.

Couldn't agree more. I predict Tiger is going to make some noise when the season starts in earnest next year, so I'd stand pat with that /10 if I were you. You may end up paying for that case and then some before you know it.

In addition to Rory, other yankable 20-something rooks with potential are Cantlay and Uihlein. I was watching your results and was prepared to make an offer. lol

Great stuff, thank you for sharing

Thanks for sharing! I've been picking up some singles here and there. Great design, especially the Jumbo Swatches & Signature Masterpiece, but still looks like cases are a bit overpriced. You pretty much need two great boxes to break even.

I broke my Exquisite rule of only buying single boxes from distributors instead of cases. I've broken my fair share of Exquisite and seen enough breaks to believe the 1-1-1 configuration. So you have an overall chance of 33% to hit a really good single box. However I bought this case at a local show and the price was too good pass up.

    Now that's funny ndleo.

    Collecting PSA 9's from 1970-1977. Raw 9's from 72-77. Raw 10's from '78-'83.
Collecting Unopened from '72-'83; mostly BBCE certified boxes/cases/racks.
    Prefer to buy in bulk.

I think there maybe a certain segment of the hobby that will bid strong on the Wie. You know who you are.

    Thanx for sharing Mike.

Don't follow golf but do watch the Masters every year.

    I do have - I believe an 80 or 81D set?

What would be the "dream" pull in terms of auto cards?

The same group going after Belen Mozo, Anna Rawson, and if Paige Spirinac ever has any cards ;) I still have a hard time passing up any Ai Miyazato in the knee high socks items.
