Just picked up his 1982 and 1985 regular Topps cards in PSA 9. You don’t see these very often at a decent price. 1982 Topps was the first complete set I bought as a kid. Lots of fond memories of that package coming to my door.

    The 1982 Seaver in Action seems easy, but the 1982 regular Seaver card seems a lot tougher in top grades.

    Yes. So is the 1985 Topps. I see 1975 through 1981 Topps in PSA 8 and 9 everyday. You are lucky to find the 1982 and 1985 in PSA every 6 months.

    I bought a Tom Seaver lot from a card store that was closing back in 1995 and it was years 1979 through 1987. I had no idea anyone was interested in the 80's cards. I'll have to pull those out and see what they look like. I remember them being pretty good condition wise, just have no idea about the centering, etc.

    I actively collect Kirby Puckett. I have collections of Michael Jordan, Emmitt Smith, Roberto Clemente, Dwight Gooden, Tom Seaver, Errict Rhett and Evan Longoria.

    Ehh, I just looked around and there are plenty available for a couple bucks that are easily 8-9's. Never mind.

    The one that went for $1.42 is a crappy, poorly centered, tilted 4SC 9. The 1982 card is actually fairly tough to find really nice.

    There's nearly 50 for sale here. I'm sure you can find a few that fit your condition parameters. I see 5 to 10 without looking much that are near perfectly centered and have sharp corners.

    All I can tell you is 9s have sold for $20-60 routinely in the last several years, and a 10 recently sold for $820. So it is not common swill in those grades.

    From the SMR article on the set:

    "With 119 PSA 10s, however, Ryan's regular issue card (#90) is not particularly challenging to find in high grade. A PSA 10 sold for $199.99 on eBay in September 2014.

    In contrast, Tom Seaver's regular card (#30) is very difficult to obtain in pristine form. This card is located in the top row (fourth from the left) on a print sheet, a position that generally makes cards more susceptible to condition woes.

    "That's a card that just has massive registration problems," said Barnett. "You can't find a crisp, clear one."

    There are just three PSA 10s of the Seaver card."

    There are actually five 10s now as the article is out of date.

    Just because you can buy a stack of them doesn’t mean 9s and 10s are readily available. New to grading?
