One takes their chances in small airplanes.
And big airplanes.
Sad,
Dave
The A5 is a light sport Amphibian plane. Maybe there was a mechanical failure, or he might have been flying too low and caught a wave, causing the impact. Sad to hear the news, far too young to be gone...RIP Roy.
John Denver while flying a Long EZ experimental plane ran out of fuel over Monterey Bay in California. He apparently was attempting to reach for a fuel lever behind him when the airplane stalled and he crashed. Denver was a highly experienced pilot...it can happen to anyone.
Thurman Munson, while taking Cessna Citation lessons, came short of the runway and crashed...horrible way to die.
As a Commercial licensed pilot, I flew a few different small aircraft, it's easy to get in a jam, or scare the hell out of yourself if you're not on top of things. I once landed on the wrong runway at a remote New Hampshire airport. Coming over the numbers was a scary moment and I was in the middle of the White Mountains at night...instant Twilight Zone moment...but for the grace of God go I...lesson learned.
Condolences to Roy's family.
How many famous people have died in small plane crashes!! Hundreds. Good reason not to fly.
Sad news. Great pitcher.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
Add in John Kennedy Jr. Harrison Ford crash landed once but survived.
Sorry to hear. Enjoyed his career. The Roberto Clemente crash affected me the most.
Same with me. Roberto was my first favorite player. Just a kid when he died. As a side note,
I love that MLB has the Roberto Clemente award and the player that wins it always talks about
what an honor it is, and its really nice that Roberto is remembered as being such a great humanitarian
as well as a ball player.
I met a girl who sang the blues, and when I asked her for some happy news,
she just smiled and turned away. - Don McLean
Couldn't agree with you more.
Apparently there is video of the incident, witnesses say he was screwing around , repeatedly diving and pulling up again and the last time he didn't pull up
any of you Bostonians listen to this guy? he had an, ahem, interesting take

I was listening . It seemed a bit over the top but they are blowing it out of proportion .
Felger is known for being a douche but its sports talk radio, its par for the course. They are the most popular sports show in the area so I doubt he gets fired over it , in the snowflake era though anything is possible
It appears that Halladay was flying in a reckless manner, tempting fate and he lost.
Felger is apologizing on the show right now. Someone must have exerted some pressure on him from above overnight
I actually agree with portions of what Felger said, but if forced to impart my opinion publicly I would have offered up a much different delivery. The guy got enraged to the point of castigating the deceased. Can you imagine if Halladay had been a beloved Red Sox hurler? It would have gotten ugly pronto.
I'm no plane expert, but what I saw on that vid looked like a death wish. The guy behind the phone was uttering profanity seemingly every other word, so clearly it was an unsettling sight. When they got to the wreckage, the gravity really set in.
Sad for myriad reasons, and I think that's what Felger unsuccessfully tried to convey.

Hard to feel sorry for someone acting stupid!! I do feel for his family.
