Mailing a card in an envelope

Went to the post office today to mail a card packaged in an envelope between two pieces of cardboard. The worker insisted on trying to charge me package price which is nearly the value of the card. Do I need to increase my shipping charges to $3.00 for every single card I sell on eBay or is there a better way to ship in an envelope for person who rarely sells card such as myself. I've never had this problem before.

If I'm gonna send something in a PWE it's usually a low $ card. I buy a package of Thank You or Blank cards and envelopes from the Dollar Store. I put card in a card saver and tape to inside of Thank You card. Put on a Forever stamp and place in mail box. I've had no issues. Now you never know how the recipient will respond, but I've experienced no damage.

And though my buddy Steve (slum22) thought I was crazy, I sent him a Chrome Harden RC that way to sub for me, and it came back a 10. Typically I'd have never sent a card of that value that way, but I had no time for a PO run and needed to get it out.

If I was selling on eBay though, I wouldn't use that method for anything over say $10.

Send it "Non Machineable", should cost 70 cents

IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY

Is that 70 cents for just up to one ounce? I have some things I would send this way but some may be between 1-2 ounces.
