Is it agreed,,,,,

That there is no reason to purchase sealed or otherwise FASC Baseball boxes/cases from 1981 - 1988 ?

No, stop... there is no reason to defend the cases you have :) Stop and admit it.

This would have been a lot better thread had it come 5 years ago before I knocked out FASC boxes for the 80's.

I definitely fall in the latter category trying to defend the purchase = you can't have a run of wax boxes without the 80's!

(you can if you stop at 1980!)

    What's wrong with the 80's?

Always looking for OPC "tape intact" baseball wax boxes, and 1984 OPC baseball PSA 10's for my set. Please PM or email me if you have any available.

I just went through the BBCE smorgasbord of stuff.. Some of the 80's stuff did indeed look tempting.. but... after thinking about it if I bought it, what would I have ? No one I deal with in this world also collects. The 'high' of having extremely value loss boxes of cards isn't too appeasing.

I think I'm gunna still do my little own collecting of focused stuff but refrain from the 'drug'. If anyone out there, you know what I mean. Waking up in the morning, and suddenly realizing you did NOT make a stupid worthless purchase.... is a good feeling..:) A run of boxes is of course cool, not meant for that.

Enjoy your 30 card 1986 Fleer 80 buck a card purchase though :) If you don't make out there, you'll know the thought for next time, don't fall for the high of the purchase... :)

I only do Hockey but I have one must have year. 1985.

1985 OPC Hockey. Recent sub $4k sales for BBCE. Lemieux Rookie peaked at $22K I believe earlier this year with an outlier. Steady easy 10 brings $12k all day. 9s have all bettered $1k.

1985 Topps Hockey. $1300 a BBCE box. Lemieux RC peaked at $3400 I believe and has since held at around $2200. 9s will go $275.

It is the only real year. You could argue 86 OPC for the Roy RC but he's a goalie. Better than a HOF stay at home defenseman. But will never touch a world class center.

Why would anyone ever have to defend what they like to collect?

Can you elaborate on this? Are you talking cello? wax boxes? rack packs? Is your opinon that the actual value of the cards is so low that the unopened is not worth it? '81 rack packs can be had from $10-$15; that seems like a fun way to rip some cards. Or are you suggesting there is so much supply that is doesn't matter? Or are you suggestion the premium for FASC is not worth it but buying unopened in those years is?

I'm building ultra high end raw sets from 72-83 to complement my PSA sets. For 78-83, i'm getting all of my raw from ripping. Just got 10 boxes of '83 FASC cellos from BBCE. ripped two of the boxes already.

FASC, IMO, carries many advantages beyond just sequencing and cherry picking. About 25% of my puchases are non-FASC just because there is limited supply of FASC. However, most of my non-FASC gets ripped pretty quickly.

    Collecting PSA 9's from 1970-1977. Raw 9's from 72-77. Raw 10's from '78-'83.
Collecting Unopened from '72-'83; mostly BBCE certified boxes/cases/racks.
    Prefer to buy in bulk.
