"Below Measurement Tolerance"

I was looking at a vintage card offered online and the description says the following: "Below Measurement tolerance, top to bottom, per BGS". Its not in any case.

Is this simply a fancy way of saying the card has been trimmed without saying that? They sent it to BGS and chose the option of not having it slabbed if it wasn't authentic/had been altered? If not, anyone know what it means?

I actively collect Kirby Puckett. I have collections of Michael Jordan, Emmitt Smith, Roberto Clemente, Dwight Gooden, Tom Seaver, Errict Rhett and Evan Longoria.

I'm guessing the equivalent of a MINSIZE from PSA. I doubt it's trimmed, sounds like it's just a factory short cut.

  • Hmm... are these scene as "less than desirable" like a badly mis-cut card? How are they viewed by the market?

First, kudos to the seller for even mentioning it. Many would avoid putting that it in their description.

While potentially less desirable than some, there are so many cases of MINSIZEREQ cards ending up slabbed on subsequent attempts it wouldn't affect my bid significantly, but I'd be looking for a discount. If it's going into a raw binder set, it wouldn't bother me at all.

  • Thanks for the info. I did finally notice the "other" problem with the card - looks like a small amount of missing paper or some type of flaw at a border. Its a 1954 Bowman Mantle and it looked pretty good other than that description, but the price had me wondering.
