Very odd that the 2017-18 NBA and NHL training camps and preseason games are underway.

Seems like the Stanley Cup and NBA finals were just a couple of weeks ago.
Oh well, the seasons turn in both nature and sports. Before fall arrived earlier this week snow storms hit the high Sierras in California. Summer snow and summer skiing (some places had enough snow so that skiers could ski every day in 2017 so far) is the norm in 2017. Why not have NHL and NBA training camps open before the first day of fall?

It's all about keeping your sport out in the public eye as much as possible. All sports are grabbing at the fan base pool year round, and it is an ongoing struggle in the ratings wars. Which in turn equate to what the networks can charge for advertising rates, based on the ratings/viewers. The fan pool may be shrinking a bit, but regardless, the 4 main sports are all pulling from the same group of sports fans. I can remember when baseball was "put to bed" by Oct. 10th, then it handed off to football, with basketball in third place for viewership. Now all sports seem to run into each other with: regular games,pre-season games, draft coverage, combines, and the usual off field antics/controversies.
