I am just starting a collection, and I work at a bank and come across many bills a day. I've been looking over some and have started a list of some ones that caught my eye after doing some research. I was hoping someone could take a look at my numbers and give me some advice on what to keep and what to spend. Thanks in advance for any tips!

G16001600H is a Repeater, and it's a winner! ...the others are spenders

Although, keep the 1963 star note if it is uncirculated.

The condition of the note will play an important factor in its value, especially for notes issued recently. If you have access to notes fresh from the Federal Reserve, carefully looking through them for star notes and the variety of serial numbers that are prized, like repeaters, can be a good idea. Of course, you may never have time to do your job. ;)

If you are collecting just for the fun of collecting, then it can be helpful to identify what you like--such as a specific number. Lots of people on this board have a number they like and when they see serial numbers like 00000076 (or whatever) they grab them.

Lots to consider. Best of luck.

Definitely look over 2$ bills. Especially 1976 star notes. Depending on the Federal Reserve bank and condition they could be worth a little. There a couple of nice books in the market that will quite you. I search bills for the fun of it sometimes. Every once in a while a nice surprise shows up. Also look for birthday notes....EBayers like them.

  • Thanks all! This is just an interesting hobby I've picked up during downtime at work, it's really interesting to see what I can find. Those were all picked out with 2 days of looking, so I'll keep my eyes out for what more I can find! I'll be keeping the 16001600 bill and the 1963 star note although it's circulated, the condition is very good for as old as it is. I appreciate the help, this is all pretty new to me!

    Welcome and have fun!

  • Would these two be considered of value?

Spend the first one. The second one you can keep. Tough to say what if any premium it would bring since it has some light circulation and an ink stain on the top right corner. You could put it on eBay starting at $34.95 and maybe there's someone out there who likes the number 677. :)
