Good question..but originally..the 34-45 was the short set...but time has brought on a new short set as well,it was brought on by the cost of mercuries rising a few years back (or so I was told) and you said the medium set, and that will fit fine for the 34-45......
I have ads from Coin World going back to the 1970's showing the short set of mercs being 1941-1945 walkers being 1941-1947.
The medium sets were 1934 to the end of the series.
Even back in the 70's the mm dates of the 1934 and 1935 years were prized coins and was not easily marketed as were the short sets which were literally a dime a dozen.
Of course, the short set of mercs back in the early 1970's ran for $13.95 and about half of the dimes were MS65FB's and higher if you paid a little extra like $15.95. This included the blue Whitman album.
The term short set must have been prior to the early 1970's?

I have Heard of Both Referred too as the Short Set.
Does That Help ???
I would Say "No".
To Me the Short Set is The Forties. Just My Very,Very,Humble Opinion.
