1961 Fleer basketball Wax Box BBCE

As most of you know they have one listed for a mere $149,000. Doing the quick math that is $6,208 per pack and well over $1,000 per card. Knowing that many of the cards will be virtually worthless due to centering and other condition problems and wax and gum stains this seems way over priced. There is some doubt but I believe that there are 5 cards per pack. I opened one of these years ago and that is what I remember. Of course there is a premium just for the fact that it is a complete wax box and very rare. With that said if I won the lottery I would buy this box and just have a blast opening it.

  • If we could negotiate the price down to $120k, would $5k per pack be worth it? A PSA 7 pack went for $1575 back in July of 2016.

The biggest lesson I've learned in this hobby, and in life, is that if you have a strong conviction, you owe it to yourself to see it through. Don't sell yourself, or your investments, short. Unless the facts change. Then sell it all.
  • PWCC has a PSA 7 pack auctioning currently as well. Let's see where that one lands.

The PSA 7 pack went for $1,625. Well below what the average pack from the BBCE box would be.

  • Why would you want to break up the box. There are so few of these that exist that it would be a shame to break it up.

There's a decent amount of 1961 Fleer BKB unopened still sitting out there.

Last time I remember any appreciable amount of 61F Bkb was in the early 90s when the Prince of Cards had both BB and Bkb via SCD. Back then, if I remember, a pack would set ya back around 400 to 500.

BBCE used to have packs fairly often in the 2011/2012 time period. kick myself that I didn't pick up any. I think they were on average maybe 800 or so? Remember a pack with Elgin Baylor on the front or back for about 1700 sitting for a while

The wax community thought a 1965 topps football box would sell between 250-500k dollars.
It sold between 1/4 to 1/2 that.

If that 61 fleer box was sold at auction on ebay, it would sell for 50-75k at best, and even that
    may be a bit generous.

Not true... 50-75k would be a steal (although $149,000 is high). A 1961 Fleer Basketball wax box sold 3 months ago for $108K on MileHigh...... LINK

It does seem like a 1961 Fleer basketball box comes up for auction pretty regularly. REA sold one in the Spring (2017) for $120k (premium due to Chamberlain and Baylor on top packs) .... LINK
