Ebay...game issued 1986 Walter Payton Jersey??

Like most chicagoans I am a fan of Sweetness and will look at ebay from time to time to find some cool memorabilia...

I have NEVER seen a jersey like this, in this good of condition, and the fact that it says "possibly game issued" has me intrigued.

It looks like it is from 85 or 86...what do you guys think?

actually, thats one of the reasons i think it's legit. if you look at the pics of the jerseys in the 80'S they were longer..

This just my opinion but if this seller really thought this might be Game Issued,I highly doubt he'd be willing to let it go just for $99 with no reserve. I'm guessing he added the "may have been game issued" hoping someone might bite on the $1500 BIN or make a substantial offer better than his starting bid. If you're looking just for a Payton throwback jersey,this was the first jersey on a Google search at $149 brand new.

theres no way you can compare the quality of those jerseys...i am looking for authentic and vintage.i agree, i think it may have been a mistake as it appears now the starting bid has gone up!

i wonder what a jersey of this quality, would even be worth. i do remeber seeing that payton wore a 42 but regradless, this one does not look at all like a replica, expecially when you compare it to the pics out there of other game used payton jerseys.

thanks...that confirms that quality wise this is the EXACT same...but the size is off, I wonder if it was sent and never worn because size was wrong. i just dont think they made replicas this authentic in the 80's and everything here (except the size on the tag) matches up from what i can tell

I definitely thinks its an authentic jersey from that time frame but as for the game issued opinion without authentication is a tough call.

i agree with you but i have been collecting jerseys a long time and I just don't think they sold authentic jerseys like that back in the mid 80's. the jerseys that they sold were all replicas, but i could be wrong.

That one sold for over 4k though. Its definitely a tough call,good luck with it. Is there an authentication service to find out if its game issued? Does PSA/DNA just do signed items?

I'd bid $1500 then wait it out or snipe at the end with the same price,you might get lucky by paying less than half especially with no way for him to authenticate it. Either way good luck.

BIN is $3500 now (went up with starting bid). Mears did the authentication for the Collect Auctions jersey.

after reviewing it....i think its the real deal...wish it had some authenticity to it, i wonder if theres an old bears equipment manager out there ...LOL

Just seems like a big coincidence unless you asked him while we were talking about it. Something made him decide to more than double the BIN price after listing it for just $1500. Everything we just talked about got added to the auction within minutes.

so basically he got some interest then jacked it up by 2 grand? I've had a couple sellers do something like this to me before and i just moved on and didn't bother dealing with them at that point.

Retail authentics were most definitely made in the 1980s. They were sold through catalogs and whatever but, yes, Wilson retail authentics were definitely made back then.

would love to see a picture of that Oakland A's uniform. I do remember the catalogs, but there were CLEAR (capitalizing to prove a point) differences between the ones in the catalog and the ones the players wore.
