Help identifying a couple that have me stumped!

The 2nd coin appears to be from Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg-Hannover but the Obv. Legend is wrong.

First coin appears to be some sort of commemorative for John VI, Prince of Anhalt-Zerbst.

    The second one: 2/3 Thaler / 1 Gulden - Ernst August (1693 - 1721)

Or he could be Cyrano de Bergerac.

Notice the difference in the Obv. legend! The coin is pretty much a match except for that!

The catalogs list a 1721 restrike in low-grade silver but I can not find an illustration.

I suspect that the 1721 legend was slightly changed from the earlier 1693-1697 coins.

The difference in the legend suggests a different state!

On the second coin Ernst Augustus was George Ludwigs (Geo. I of England) father, Duke of Brunswick Luneburg Calenburg. But he died in 1698 so not sure why he would be on a coin from 1721. The obv. legend is the same as KM 379 dated 1693 and 94.

And that is why I did not comment on that coin. I could not figure out the 1721 date. Maybe it is some sort of restrike, as WillieBoyd2 suggests.

I found an old catalog online:
Münz- u. Medaillen-Kabinet des Freiherrn Wilh. Knigge By Wilhelm Knigge
which shows the 2/3 thaler 1693-97 each year with the endings of the obverse inscriptions varying slightly.
I believe that for the 1721 coin they ended the inscription with TEO for some reason, possibly it meant deceased.

Aren't we having fun with this little coin!

Krause states they were restruck later in lower grade silver.

Yes it is interesting. I believe I am OK with it now. To bad Krause was using an image of an earlier coin...probably wouldn't be having this discussion!

    I appreciate everyones input!

That was a great lead! I found it in Krause! It is Anhalt-Zerbst 1/4 Thaler KM13 also M-238. Of course it has no picture or value listed! I suspect it scarce to rare. Anyone have an idea as to value?
