2002 - 2005 was a dull period for RCs. Anyone recall any player being really hyped in those years ?

Outside of Mr. Kate Upton in ''05 and UD USA Baseball doesn't count.

I am assuming you meant in the OP to refer specifically to baseball? I ask because the years you mention include some of the very biggest rookies in a long, long time.

Here are 5 incredibly huge stars who have each lived up to and exceeded the hype who had RC's issued over that time (excluding pre-RC stuff):

    Lionel Messi
    Cristiano Ronaldo
    Sidney Crosby
    Lebron James
    Alexander Ovechkin

There are plenty more slightly lower on the superstar list.

    Henrik Lundqvist
    Henrik Zetterberg
Lots of other hockey guys could be on this list too.

Plenty of footballers (soccer) but I'm not sure many on this board would necessarily recognize them beyond the two names I listed here, despite global fame.

Being a Tigers fan, we sure had high hopes for Joel Zumaya to be a big deal for a lot of years like Verlander. Too bad that didn't work out!

The Sidney Crosby RC I just paid $600 for in a PSA 9 (the young guns). But for baseball specifically...Bobby Crosby and Dontrelle Willis were supposed to be hot for awhile.

Sad mauer had the injuries. Great talent.

I see lots of upper deck cards with dual autos of matt bush and derek jeter. I laugh because bush was a clown and jeter...well...future hofer and all that. Not a good pairing on a card now, but after the draft, it may have seemed good!

I remember a lot of hype about Andrew McCutchen. I would add him to the list.
