I understand it's Off-Topic, but who/where is seeing the ECLIPSE??

It is really a big deal to me and I wondered if others will witness this spectacle which has infatuated the Human Race for untold centuries??
On a side-note, I did some internet searching --- my present location will be in the path of totality for approximately 3:49 during a similar eclipse on April 8th, 2024!!

Hope you get to see both!
We will get about 95%. We are watching the moon moving across now. This will be my second, we had a total eclipse in 1979.
I prefer the large, long tail, naked-eye visible comets! They last for days!
I read in a text that two people I know (family) are going to Tecumseh, Ne. to view this event.
I like to think of it as the day we are able to see the dark side of the moon... and a full moon, at that. Apparently Nebraska is the place to be, but I'm not yet convinced. It's the skeptic in me. Maybe I will sit in the shade and listen to Pink Floyd.

Travelled to my in-laws house in Columbia, SC to see totality.
Partial starts within the hour. Can't wait!!
I remember seeing that too.
We'll be at about 70% here, but still worth the pin-hole watch!
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
Here in Pinehurst, NC the sky is almost cloud free. Expecting 96% coverage.
Eclipse starts here at 1:15 pm, max coverage at 2:43 pm, and ends at 4:05 pm.
It's a big deal to me. The last solar eclipse I witnessed was in southern Wisconsin on July 20,1963. About 80% coverage. No eclipse goggles back then, but we did make one of these "sun scopes" to view an inverted image. Sun scopes work by standing with your back to the sun, put your head in a box and aim the pinhole (punched in the back of the box) at the sun. An inverse image is projected on the opposite side of the box. Worked great.

Thunder and clouds here in Las Vegas.......but if you've seen one (I've seen several) you've seen them all.
bob:)
Clouded over and calling for a few inches of rain today. I'm not going to see much.
The engineers I work with are ready with various contraptions for viewing and photographing. Will get 92% here in the PNW. Gotta head outside now.
Will be at about 98% here. 150 miles North East of Madras, Oregon on the Oregon/Washington border.

Forgot a photo of the sun scope

I remember the boxes from the early 60s!
N.E. OH, coverage around 90%, in the Path Of Totality for the next one.
My wife took my grandson and nieces down south to view it, then they're going to visit the Smithsonian for a few days, then hit VA beach for a few days.
Me too. cloudy, rain, can I stare at the sun? Media event now. The world needs more cameras. Just wait 'til everything is camera mapped for self driving cars.
People are cheering for the eclipse. WTF.
"Anytime I get to stand in the shadow of the moon and get to share it on social media is a feeling of satisfaction."
Davis, CA. Eclipse peeks in about 4 minutes. Maxes ay 79% here.
Newburgh, NY. 70% totality here.
That's when I first wore a dunce cap while most were wearing tin foil hats. LOL

Just went outside, clouds but thinning and can actually see the sun with the naked eye through the clouds. Obvious that we have about 50% coverage....pretty cool and no glasses needed (but not sharp or distinct either).
bob
Never did get totally dark here. Temperature dropped 8 to 10 degrees.
Ken
We'll get to 95% in Iowa, I'm about 2 hours north of totality. 95% is good enough for me.
If it's cloudy (like it is here, story of my life):

I've got a set of welder's goggles and plan to go outside in about an hour here, where we should have about a 70-80% totality.
Tom
Just now through the clouds.
bob:)
Totality in Idaho Falls right now.
Partial in Texas, about a 15% clip. My kids are very excited and using my welding shield to view it. I am excited about it also...it is a pretty neat thing!
K
Not a big deal to me. I saw the one in 79...meh.
will be getting about 70% here in the north east.
The latest, clouds thinned a bit more:

My cat thinks it's time for his treats, which he get in the evening. Stupid cat...
lol. They mentioned that over 4.4 million were watching, and using 80% of all the government network traffic.
95% here. Clouded over. Sat on my back porch and watched a squirrel plant another acorn during max.
Just watched it peak here in Austin, TX about 15 minutes ago. We got 65%.
It would have pretty neat to say that my TrueViews were posted during the eclipse...there is still time.

dear Media,
I get it. There is / was an eclipse. It happens, periodically. Media / science frenzy, Science guy says, "It brings me to tears, watching with my ISO glasses on."
The best coin I've ever seen didn't bring me to tears.
F***ing crazy.
the Moon is on the way out, about 2/3 left. I have witnessed quite a variety of celestial events and these are about the best. imagine primitive man and his confusion, sheer terror, when these took place!!
Some of the reactions of people on T.V. are beyond STUPID! I mean come on......the moon gets in the way of the sun every once in a while......BIG DEAL! Let's move on shall we!!!!!
Best I could get in NY.

Why? You like coins. Most (like 99.5%) think that's crazy. Yet the thing that 99.5% find fascinating you find crazy.
This was interesting. We had about a 90% eclipse. At the peak it darkened to look like a cloudy day although the sky was clear blue. A few minutes after the peak I noticed the sun was shining through the tree next to my driveway and cast a shadow on the concrete. and the garage door. Everywhere the sun shown through the branches it made a light box and you can clearly see the crescent shape.
Apologies for the oil stains. Old clunker.
