Crossover BGS 8 to PSA 8?

My wife bought me a BGS 8 1993 SP Derek Jeter foil. Subs are 8.5/8.5/7.5/8. As much as I appreciated it, she forgot I only collect PSA and it’s hard for me to judge the value and what the crossover will be to PSA. She immediately messaged me saying she made a mistake and it wasn’t PSA graded. I assume there’s no chance it it will cross to a PSA 8. Anyone ever cross a BGS 8 to a PSA 8?

I wouldn't immediately expect an equal grade. PSA is either excessively harsh with this card, or BGS is abnormally weak with it. Your choice to decide, but the price difference in the market reflects this on a regular basis.

With PSA, I would say surface, corners, edges matter in that order for the 8 and if one of the 8.5's isn't surface then I would bank on the 7 range. Send to PSA and ask for your 8 minimum or don't crack if you want.

And show pics here for a better idea from others!

Luckily she was able to cancel the purchase. The seller is someone I dealt with in the past and is VERY good. They canceled with no questions asked. These are the pics. My first instinct is it would be a 7 and probably too high priced also. Also, is it true the older graded stuff by BGS is better than current? Maybe the card would grade better via PSA? The corners are what got me on this. They just don’t look PSA 8 worthy at all.

On a side note, I saw someone had a raw one for sale and I have to admit, it looks very good and I’m considering it. Do you think this has a shot at an 8?

I don't think the above raw is an 8, no.

Wow even that raw one? It looks so much better than ones I’ve seen online

  • I once sent in a raw to psa and got a 7, thought it was much better...cracked out, sent to BGS and got an 8.5...PSA is tough on this card..the raw is as ugly as the graded you showed us

I was thinking those corners don’t look as bad as some of the 7’s I’ve seen.

Still don;'t understand why anyone uses anyone other than PSA when it comes to vintage or key cards.

For this card, when the 8 is likely a 6, it gives a good reason for a seller to send to BGS. But yes, if somehow the 8's were an equal card inside the separate holders, PSA wins every time on hammer price.
