Recently picked up a couple of boxes. What do the unopened experts think it can get to when he gets inducted to the hall (unanimous I hope)....

I’m jealous. I would open them until I found the card. I wouldn’t be able to resist.

.
the past month shows ebay sales about $1200 each.
the griffey upper deck boxes didnt boost much from his hall of fame spot. The only thing i noticed was maybe a $20 boost and it was easier to sell with the hype and news coverage surrounding it.
Key difference vs. 1989 UD could be the value of the chase card in PSA 10 condition. I predict a $1600 box by the time Jeter gets into the HOF.

The biggest lesson I've learned in this hobby, and in life, is that if you have a strong conviction, you owe it to yourself to see it through. Don't sell yourself, or your investments, short. Unless the facts change. Then sell it all.
Isn't this issue notorious for cards being stuck together?
Also, no way he's unanimous.
If you can buy a box - sealed - at a really good price?
Maybe - if keeping for the purpose of reselling.
Opening?
I think it may be one of the bigger crap shoots in the unopened market.
It's one of the most "condition sensitive" issues I've seen in my 30 yrs of collecting.
My son pulled this from a pack he bought - lucky kid - back when the issue came out - we were at a card shop - he pulled a Jeter and immediately placed it into a card saver.
Here it is:
(the big scratch by his feet was my old scanner - the rest is how it came out of the pack)
Just my anecdotal experience and opinion. What's it worth? 2 cents.
I love these boxes for investment. As Stone mentioned, if you are ripping these the risk is pretty high right now. However, if you place a couple of these back you will see a very nice ROI. Steve had two boxes at the National for $1500 and both sold in a day. I think by 2019 you will see these boxes selling around the $2600-2800.
Thanks for all of the comments thus far everyone! Bottom line is that I picked up 2 pristine sealed boxes included in a collection of unopened for about $1600 (collection also included about another $1500 value on top of these 2 boxes), so I think I got a pretty good deal. Mainly trying to figure out how long I want to hold them. Thinking I might sell 1 around HOF time when they hopefully rise a bit.....I probably won't rip them since it is such a crap shoot.
Yep.. opened a couple brick boxes before. All cards were inseparable.. BUT !!!! Foils don't stick.. they slide right out of the brick packs.
The 93 SP really is a crapshoot. If the box was maintained in a controlled environment the whole time you may get lucky. But most of them haven't been and there's usually no way to tell unless you rip it....big gamble. I've also opened some that are bricks and the foils don't stick but I've opened ones where they do.
How much did SP packs go for 3 or 4 years ago? I want to say $30ish. I think I got 4 or 6 packs from group rips. Wanted to eventually get enough packs to fill a box, but now at $70 a pack, I dont think that will ever happen.
I concur - around the same time - 1992 - UD came out with their All-Star FanFest set - it was a major success for all of 3 seconds.
I have some sets left over and since I moved many times since - they were subjected to hot climates inside moving vans.
The cards are stuck together like bricks - they were very glossy like the 93SP Jeter card - not as much foil tho.
Is it true these packs contain cards that aren't all foil? They only have one foil per pack? I was under the impression they were all foil. If not I guess buying a pack and trying to get a Jeter will be no chance
