What reference/catalogs would you recommend for comprehensive listings ideally accompanied by photos and updated pricing if available for notgeld - paper and tokens (metals and porcelain)?

While extraordinarily out of date (published in the 1960's!), the Lamb book is the simplest to use for Metal municipal notgeld... It is also in English...
For Porcelain, and private Issue Notgeld, the Menzel books are the best in my opinion... While in German, they are quite easy to figure out... The prices are are also more accurate if you end up with the newer edition, where the prices are in Euros rather than Deutche Marks
