2018 Topps.

  • They need to remove the wave effect on the left. Otherwise, it looks great. I prefer designs with minimal artwork and a large, borderless action shot ala old Stadium Club.

The biggest lesson I've learned in this hobby, and in life, is that if you have a strong conviction, you owe it to yourself to see it through. Don't sell yourself, or your investments, short. Unless the facts change. Then sell it all.

I don't like the water slide, or the uncompleted dots to the right of the player name and team.
Is the card in the process of being beamed up to the starship enterprise?

Didn't like the wave either. Would also like some borders so if I do decide to buy and sub modern I can decipher a 9 from a 10 with a better degree of confidence.

Not much difference from '16 or '17.
Agree with you, robert67. I miss the white borders.

    Terrible. Bring back borders. Please.

Not bad - the photos seem to be getting better every year by some companies.

Looks good and I do like the wave. Would look even better with a border.

    Appreciate today-

  • Not a fan. Topps needs to get rid of the designer they brought over from Fox Sports Television. These graphics are going to look very dated in 5-10 years the way a lot of 90's sets look dated now because their designs are very period centric.

Already 2018's design is out? Where does the time go? And I liked the designs from the first half of the 90s, but the ones from the 2nd half aren't really anything special.

Acceptable design. No real harm or foul (pardon the pun). At least they have the team logos. The real selling point will be whom the hot rookies will be, and of course the inserts.

I agree whole heartedly with sdsalezman

For the love of god, I can't tell anything apart since 2007 (the last decent set)

The pic, when viewed on the Topps site, has borders:

I like it except for the fact that the name goes under the wave. If that was shifted right just a little bit it would be a big improvement in my opinion.

As for the fact that it's going to look dated in the future, true but I don't have a problem with that. I like being able to look at a card and know exactly when it's from.

My thoughts as a nonbaseball collector.

Looks like a set Fleer Ultra would have put out. I think it is meh.

Maybe it is me getting old and cranky but the Topps card design has looked the same to me for the past 20 plus years. Really I am just waiting for Heritage to hit the 70s which it is getting close to doing. Your mileage can and will vary!

Not a fan either, but I will say this...

I see absolutely nothing negative about card designs being very period centric. Baseball cards are little pictures of history. They represent the times, tell a story about that individual player and collectively represent that season marked in time.

I don't have to like the design, but period centric design is a big plus in the long run!

Not a fan. What appeals to me is a team specific color scheme with simple, colorful graphics and nice quality photos. 1976 is pretty hard to improve upon.

I'm not a modern card guy but the design looks pretty nice to me. My biggest peeve about the modern stuff is the printing of names/etc in foil that is often hard to see except at an angle.

If the 1976 set had incorporated a team logo rather than that drawing of a ball player, it would have been my favorite design ever.

I can't abide cards that don't have nice, bright, team specific colors. Or even if the colors are not team specific, like 1959.
