Only 4 1933-1947 Walkers have a top grade pop of double digits (1940 at 27 in ms68, 1945 at 18 in ms67+, 1936-s at 11 in ms67, and 1943 at 10 in ms68). Probably only a matter of time before a 1940 goes ms68+. Lots of top grades are pop 1-4.
An avg collector is no longer going to be able to afford a top grade, or in the case of that can afford it, they'll lose a lot of money next round of inflation. This is an extremely ugly situation and is true in all series, Walkers through clad dimes.
To your point about top pops in low numbers, the 1935-D WLH does not have a single MS67 specimen [128 in 66 and 5 in 66+]. All other regular issues in the late date set (33-47) have MS67 populations. Certifying a MS67 for this issue would be a big event for those of us who follow WLHs.
Absolutely beautiful coin -luster is likely ridiculous. When I was putting my Walkers together, I made the choice not to chase high grades on anything later than the 33-S. I never did buy a 68 even in the dates where they were available.
But I can still appreciate the beauty of the design in the later coins.

Yah I pretty much followed the same script (67's mostly) but I went off the reservation on this one. Couldn't help myself. Wanted this one. 68 CAC

Walker Proof Digital Album Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
Ya the previous owner tried for a 68+ Via crackout. I think it's in the correct holder
