JORDAN ROOKIE

As you may have seen in my previous post, I purchased a PSA 9 Jordan fleer sticker rookie for $700.
I really feel like I got a great deal on this, but one thing I am curious about...
There seems to be an over abundance of Jordan fleer cards in the market, in every grade imaginable.
Why is the sticker (which in theory should be much more rare in good condition, as people would put them on lockers, binders, etc) not more desirable in the market?

You got a pretty good price on that. As for your question, i think its because its not considered THE rookie even though is came from the same year and packs. It has also climbed in value over recent years. Just a few years ago you could get a PSA 9 for roughly half of what they go for now. You should post some pics of it for us when you get a chance.

sure. will do.
one more thing....autographed jordan rookie cards have an ADDED value? when i was a kid, you never got the card signed becuase it decreased the value, not it brings a premium...i may understand that from a player no longer living but from jordan???
People either love or hate autographed cards. You are either in the camp that this defaces an otherwise good card or at is an added bonus. Just depends on the buyer. By the way, at the National, one dealer had the 10 card 1986 Star Jordan subset all signed by him in his early signature form. I met the guy who bought it for 50K on the first day of the show.
There are a lot more people doing base sets than inserts, myself included. I can tell you what I need from 86-87 fleer base off the top of my head but not which stickers I need. Unfortunately for me I know I need the Jordan base and I think the sticker as well. Had many opportunities to buy the base back in the day and never did, wish I had now because it's more than I can justify on a single card anymore.
I am in the camp that an autograph on a card not made for them is a detraction. Cards planned for are fine, that's totally different. Love the Autographics insert for example. In my 29 years in the hobby I've sent exactly two autograph requests, only one of which I got back.
I just checked my records, and I do need the Jordan sticker. Also Bird and Dominique Wilkins. Down to needing Jordan, Ainge, Erving and of all people Albert King to complete my base set. Have not added any new since 2005. I should, especially the King as it's a Nets card, my favorite team.
I still dont see why the sticker is less desirable. Does anyone know how many stickers they produced versus how many of the actual fleer cards?
Based on my math, you got 12 cards plus one sticker per pack. That would make 3.27 Jordan sticker Rookies per box and 3.27 Regular Jordan rookies per box. So, the number, unless I am off, is the same production wise
People want cards, not stickers, as this part of the hobby focuses on true rookie cards.
interesting point...still, the sticker had to have been something people would have used, instead of keep. who keeps stickers?

Sweet looking Jordan.
very nice, back side centering is best i have seen for this card up close, well done. that may be a bgs 9.5 if you do not mind their holders.
Thanks for the kind words. Think I'll stick with the psa grading. Not really sure why it's shy of a 10. Maybe the front is a little off on the
Centering. Who knows.
I would send that bumper in all day thrice. 2 PSA 1 BGS with 9.5 requested.
You can always try a review in the future and the gamble could be great if they give it a bump.

You lost me here. What do you mean?
I think he meant keep trying if it doesn't bump the first time, maybe even try BGS.

Thanks for the translation ;-)
I don't think a lot of people are sold on the idea of a sticker holding up long term. There may be a possibility of humidity unsticking the sticker and glue tends to yellow over time.

the complete sticker run in 10s is much harder to attain vs reg cards. the 88/89 jordan will run $25k+ alone.
imo, the stickers are a much better buy in high grade vs reg cards.

When I was going through PSA completed auctions the other day I thought I recalled this being in that range. WOW this came down fast.
In 1986, everyone was collecting everything. So, if the cards were being kept, so were the stickers. And since there were only 12 stickers and they were all major stars, these would have definitely being kept.

I haven't played the bump strategy before, but if I was ever going to send one in, this card would be my first. A real beauty. Agreed that the only possible critique could be top to bottom centering keeping it from a ten. It is a BGS9.5 if I ever saw one.
you aint kidding!
I disagree. That was right before the hobby took off and it is well reported that 86-87 Fleer basketball didn't sell that well. Those stickers were liable to end up on a notebook cover or locker. Further, PSA has graded significantly fewer stickers than the regular card. While the math says there are as many stickers and regular set cards, intuitively, much fewer likely "survived".
I actively collect Kirby Puckett. I have collections of Michael Jordan, Emmitt Smith, Roberto Clemente, Dwight Gooden, Tom Seaver, Errict Rhett and Evan Longoria.
Is that really true? I dont think people knew the value of any of this stuff in 86 or even in 90 for that matter. Dont think anyone was thinking "hey stickers of potential hall of famers, lets keep them in a safe place"
Man those are some cool cards.
