Counterfeit of what? My gut feeling is that this is a medal, created to celebrate the birth of the couple's daughter, in 1572. Considering the disfigurement of the king's face and the religious conflicts of the time, if may have fallen into the hands of a Huguenot. The queen would not have been so hated. Despite her fervent Catholicism, considering what is known of her charactrer, she would not have been so despised.
