Some final parting shots from the National

Stone193Stone193 Posts: 24,351 ✭✭✭✭✭

Well it's Sat. nite - we've left the bar and people are planning their trip home.

Another national has come and gone - but not without some of the best memories anyone can have.

For me, the best part of the National is meeting each and every one of you and sharing stories.

And - it goes without saying - I'm already looking forward to next year.

I'll add to this tomorrow after the first leg of our journey home.

I did a lot of looking around and was intrigued by much of the promotional stuff going on which is good for the hobby IMO.

The first - they did a "free" team matching "live rip" event for kids where they bring up a card and the players from that team were given to the child:

Panini had an interesting program - I saw a mess of people waiting in line and enquired.

So, if you bring your purchased box(s), you present it and they take off the logo'ed sealed box shrink wrap and in turn give you a pack which may have autos etc.

Now I saw a guy who was "all smiles" and when I went to the front of the line I saw why...

look who's doing the redeeming.

collecting "new" school? All right!

Ya gotta love the hobby!

Mike

Also, I had posted about the live rip we did of a 79T BB box - well Keith/Kendallcat - had the last of the packs.

We were SURE he had the pack with the Oz - hi Keith!

    Well....

Not so fast Keith - NO Oz for you!

But, he did get a nice OC Winfield.

    Moving right along.

Manny aka Flatfoot from CU - was a member here? Manny are you there?

Opened a 87F Bkb pack - nothing to report unfortunately.

And Just Collect did a "live" rip of a 79T Hockey wax tray - with nothing to report.

    Again, sad but true.

Just Collect also bought a couple of the BBCEx 86F Bkb with not enough takers at 2K for a live rip when I left.

Tho you can't see it well - they also did a live rip of the 62T cello with nothing great to say.

Not a good day all and all for ripping.

Something that I felt good to see - "collecting old school"

    A man, a check/wantlist, a binder full of raw....

Did not see a magnifying glass near him.

Hey Mike, did you see JLo?

She was at the convention with ARod, and sat with him while he was signing autographs.

Great job reporting Stone! I wonder how many people tried to get a J Lo autograph too?

Awesome to finally meet you in person, and you did an incredible job with all of the photos of the National. All of the folks who could not make it surely felt like they were there via your photos. Can't wait until next year!

    Agree w/KC...

I had planned to attend and mingle w/CU members...but an unexpected health issue arose and it prevented me from being there...but the pics helped ease the disappointment. Maybe next year in Cleveland...

    Now for my big purchase!

Last Natty I nailed a superb game.

    This year yahtzee!

    Back story...

I was upset with myself for 2 years not getting Mary to hit the ATM for a game I saw.

Fast forward 2 years - I see the same seller - and tell him how I wished I had picked up a game he had.

He tells me he hasn't sold since the last National in Chicago - what's the game? I tell him and he still has it!!!

This year it was 50 clams higher - he went down that amount - thought it was a bit high but it's the best one I've ever seen!!! Rarely come up in eBay and when do? Beaters.

Red Bird Baseball Game - The Measuregraph Company, St. Louis, Mo. - 1930s

and the bonus? **The Box!!! ** (sans the top lid)

    It still works.

My other item, I'll scan when I get home.

It's a Hartland Plastics Drysdale with original toe plate and mound - 1960s

I think it's safe to say there will be no 75 rack ripping next year, Mike, LOL..

Congrats on the game addition! Very cool piece.

Thanks for the pictures. My health prevents me from traveling that far so I rely on the photos of others to see what I've missed. Looks like a great time. That old game is neat looking. I saw a lot of talk about the 1986-87 through 88-89 Fleer NBA sets on the various forms but did not see a lot of basketball talk otherwise...how was the show for the NBA in general aside from those three sets? Since I've already mostly completed them I won't feel too bad about missing it if that was all there was

Cool looking game...congrats on the pickup. Also, great job on the play by play/recaps. I've only gone once (last year) and it was sensory overload. Not easy to stroll and give a clear recap...thanks again.

    You're welcome Billy.

Not sure since I don't collect.

I do know they're seriously popular here in SA due to the Spurs.

Maybe a Bkb collector who was a the National? Can answer your question.

Mike - I need to get it graded and we can pass it around next National to the person with the closest pull to a rookie card but misses :D

    Hey.

That's not a bad idea Keith.

We'll have to get with Manny or whomever will want to host the Thurs. afternoon rip - and select something that's reasonable from Steve.

Something reasonable where we have a good chance of pulling a few "key" cards.

My take on that box? I didn't think - for that I apologize - should've gotten something from a sealed case so we don't wind up with a "frankenstein" box.
