Do cards for "in season" sports sell better?

I'm curious what others think on this topic (I apologize if it has been discussed before). If you have a high value football card to auction, for example, is it better to wait until the season starts, or maybe even the playoffs, before attempting to sell? Do you find yourself buying cards you want / need more often when the sport is in season?

Personally, for any vintage sets I am working on, I think my interest stays consistent throughout the season. However, for more modern stuff (the only thing I collect is Topps Heritage), I tend to be fired up during the season but then lose interest. I also feel like on some level, baseball is never out of season from a collecting perspective, while other sports may spike some during the season.

Thoughts?

If it's an active player, I'd definitely sell in-season vs not. You have so many eyes on said player from fans watching on their tv and fans at the stadium that maybe one or two of those fans will go home and look stuff up online of them.
