Picks from the hoard... need opinions

Two large hoards bought this month. Been a great learning experience.

Started scanning for Ebay and hoping to recoup my investment.

Probably will sell the '73 and '74 Topps.

The others will be for my personal collection. Just looking for opinions on grade, condition, and slabbing.

How many 73 & 74's do you have? In what condition?

I wouldn't expect anything better than a a PSA 7 on those. Each card appears to have at least one touched corner. The Twins card will grade lower. IMO

Ouch. I hope there are some nicer ones in the lot. The first one you put up there has registration/focus issues, tilt in addition to the OC, fish eye and multiple corner wear touches. You'll probably have to abandon hopes of submitting the commons if these are representative of the lot. Not even all the stars will make your grade fees back if they are in comparable condition.

Thank you, that is the feedback I need.

    Why, what, how etcc...

I'm finding grading to be tougher than I thought.

A more detailed second a third look with a loop and the reject pile grows.

I fell asleep before posting the Henderson, Boggs, and Gwynn rookies.

I agree with the others. If you're dealing with the mid 70's commons they better be razor sharp and centered, otherwise don't send them in. Sorry

Uncle ... same response as the others.

Twins Card - Top two corners are bad ... several fisheyes ... "Minnesota" out of focus ... excess black print on the top right of the card ... slight tilt. Other two not as bad, but not in great shape either. Phillies Card may even be O/C T/B. You are probably looking at grades between 5 and 6.

    Good luck with the others.

    STAY HEALTHY!

    Doug

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Would love an opinion on this Boggs card

  • DarinDarin Posts: 7,291 ✭✭✭✭✭

The corners are too mushy on the Boggs.
    PSA 7 at best, maybe a 6.

    Gwynn

Boggs 6.5, and not worth subbing.

PSA 8 of this card sells for less than the cost of grading fees, and this one is far from being an 8.

Gwynn maybe 7.5. You'd probably make back your investment to a net-zero if you consider costs of grading plus ebay & paypal fees, so don't sub it.

    Rickey

That Rickey is a PSA 5. You'd do better than your grading fees on sale, but look at the total amount you'd net selling raw, vs. net selling graded after taking out all the grading costs and there probably isn't a difference so unlikely to be worth bothering (i.e., if it sells for $5 or $6 raw, vs. sells for $14 graded less the fees, the net is more or less equivalent).

I think you might be out of luck with finding anything worth grading among your recent acquisition.

Are you pulling these rookies from sets or count boxes? I would recommend keeping a lower grade rookie with the set as you will net more just selling the set imo instead of a lower grade rc and then a non- high grade set no one wants.

Stumbled across this in a random box of Nascar die cast toys and loose cards.

    Any opinions on the auto?

The fake Burgess Meredith auto on the Jordan card was obviously done by either, an LSU backwoods burglar, or a more unfortunate Penn State Paterno period alum.

I say take the gamble and send it to PSA/DNA. If you hit on that one you'll make back a good chunk of what you paid out for your entire lot. the PSA/DNA Autograph fee for MJ is $100.

I will give it a shot and send it to PSA/DNA.

Looking at known real and fake auto's on the rareair23 website gives me hope.

  • Bob stop buying cards.

May Paterno rest in peace and may God have mercy on his soul.

Go to eBay and browse for psa 9 or 10 1974s and stare at those cards to get a sense of what is MINT, etc.
