I don't even collect the fishing lures except for the key dates but did pick up a gorgeous looking ANACS MS65 one from Michaeldixon's website.
    it is toned very nicely!
  • I did pick up a 1919-s 66 from the heritage auction.maybe I will see it in a couple of weeks

When we used to go fishing for catfish, we would take a length of nylon hose, wrap it around some catfish food, tie it up, stick a little washer above it on the string, and voila, catfish for dinner.

I tried to get a decent pic. This should give an "idea".Couldnt do it. Either too much light or not enough. It has some nice orange color to it that fades into purplish near the top. The rev. also has kind of a nice bulls eye toning pattern to it. It caught my eye. Stuck me as one TomB would like.

I just upgraded 3 lures in my set. Haven't had access to a computer for over a week, and was pleasantly surprised to see that my set was updated instantly. Hats off to BJ and the programmers that accomplished this.

I don't have any other additions coming at the moment, but will be going to a show in Colorado Springs over the July 4th weekend. It's a small show, but has a good reputation, and usually attracts some good dealers. I hope they bring some of the tougher Mercs this year.

Question: Should Mercs more properly be kept in a tackle box instead of a safe deposit box?image I'd hate for the slabs to get scratched by all those hooks. image

Picked up a nice 1945-P MS-65FB dime at the Heritage auctions in a very old PCGS holder. The price I paid included the 15% buyers fee.

Amazing how the really old PCGS insert looks so similar to the new PCGS insert?

Very nice coin, Oreville. PCGS didn't use those "bullseye" slabs for long (I'm guessing about 1990-1991). Did you get to see the coin in person? It might be a good candidate for an upgrade.

I just finished the pics of a couple of MS67FB Mercs that I added last night. They're common dates, and in older holders (not blue label), but I'm afraid they're gonna spoil me. Unfortunately, I won't be adding many in that grade, as they're expensive and don't do much to raise the weighted average in the registry. It's just nice to have a couple coins that are probably the highest grade I'll ever have for the series.

    Quite the "condition rarity"!!! image

    Jim,

I know what you mean by "spoiled"! Those 67FBs sure are nice! image ... but prohibative in earlier dates(& of course, the '45) !! image
I also have a couple of "commons" in 67FBs comin' and a '29-S in MS66.

cocoinut: According to conder101 he posted the following regarding the slab on the 1945-P dime. That slab was only in use for 4 months????? No wonder I have trouble finding them!!!!!

That's PCGS 2 which I believe was in use Sept 1989 to Dec 1989. Slab within a frame construction and the first slab to have a hologram on the back.

    Oreville,

I knew that type of slab was very short-lived, but didn't realize it was only 4 months. I think I only have 4 or 5 of that type ( out of nearly 700 slabs). While they were an great improvement over the first-generation holders that allowed the coins to rotate, they don't seem to be very sturdy. The frame holds the top and bottom pieces together, there's a lot of "give" to them, and they feel like they could be broken rather easily. Perhaps someday those holders will be collectors items in their own right.
