BGS Grade Question

Hi, Folks. This is my first post but look forward to meeting many new collectors. Anyway, I just bought a 1986 Fleer complete set with a Jordan that was already graded a BGS 7. The stats are:

Centering: 6.5
Edges: 9
Corners: 9
Surface: 8.5
Overall: 7

My question is why not a 7.5 or 8? I know BGS does not take the average and they never give a grade 2 points above the lowest score but 7 seems low to me. Thoughts?

Thanks for sharing. I knew that they use an algorithm but to me a half point above the lowest grade when all the others are 8.5 and above seems too low. Do you think PSA would have graded it differently? I know I'm ranting but after all it is a Jordan Rookie. And that is a big card for me in my little world.

For me too,his rookie has been the best card in my collection for a long time. Maybe someone else can give an opinion on whether PSA might grade it differently but i say give it a shot. Maybe look at other PSA 7-8s on ebay to see if you can see a difference.

I'm not an expert on this card, which looks really nice, but it's probably more on that lower number holds it back. Now, I could see it as a 7.5, but not more with the centering. If it was just top/bottom or left/right, maybe a bump, but having the centering bad all all sides is probably what is holding this one back...

Nice pickup! looks like a PSA 6 due to centering

Wow. Thanks for the input guys. In the end I'll probably just keep it as it is. As the old saying goes, "If it isn't broke, don't fix it". lol.

I believe BGS/BVG will not go more than one point higher than the lowest of the four grade criteria when it assigns the overall card grade. At least I have never seen more than a +1. Nice Jordan.

I'd say too off center to get a 9, yes. I think I have seen PSA 8s that are close to that, but grades aren't always consistent. I'd say PSA would give it a 7 if I had to make a guess.

I think it has a shot at a psa 8, definitely a 7.

I agree and IMHO it has a decent shot at the 8.
